Buck 119 & 110 in 5160 steel should be interesting

Just a heads up regarding this post the oak version is in stock but if you check prior listing it no longer says 1 of 100 first run I know some of you may want part of the first run.

KEEP EM SHARP

I just received mine today (Buck Knives 110 Charcoal & 5160 Carbon Steel). Is the wood supposed to look like this ? I thought it would have been all charcoal colored, instead you can see the brown wood along the edges.

edit The more I look at this thing, the more I don't like it. It's most likely going in the tool box this weekend.

This is typical in my experience.

Oh boy. I would find this thread. Welp. Sold off some silver, and soon enough I'll have a carbon steel 119, something I've lusted after for a while, and in fact just got my first 119 less than a month ago! Little did I know...

In the end, I'm very excited that my joining BF coincided so nicely with such a historic event, the first carbon 119's (or so I assume), wow!

I really like carbon steel and I'm glad I saw this post. I don;t stop in as much as I once did. Now the 119 is in carbon steel I had to pick one up. By the way the Oak 110 in 5160 are still available on the bay.

I got 099 in the oak 110's. Tight, locks up nicely, and centered up. Glad I saw these were out. Thinking about a 119.

I got 080 with the oak scales. It is a very well put together 110. I am super happy with it.

I think Buck really needs to take a look at this.
Seems to be from buffing the bolsters into the Dymondwood covers they are hitting the secondary laminate.
Natural wood flaws to me are a thing of beauty, but I think exposing some of the fill laminate is just plain ugly.

Are you kidding me. Of course they will Take care of it.

Makael, this is cosmetic and not something they can do on Stumps knife, short of replacing the slabs. He's referring to some carry over buffing or sanding at the bolsters. Thus, some of the wood dye is removed. When I saw this photo I knew someone here would know what occurred on this one. Black shoe polish would blend it in and wipe with a cloth. But you can get this as it happens easy. DM

May want look into the "5160 BOS". I believe they but a "BOS" after the steel when one of their smiths gets the formula just right (something to that effect, I think they have a specific person that does that tempering). In Buck's current line up, I don't see any 5160 steel with "BOS" in the name.

I have the 119, 105, 118 and 102 with black phenolic handles and brass furniture and they all have BOS 5160 steel, and etched to that effect.
