Buck 194/195 & 694/695 Alpha Hunter.

Soooo very nice!! JB and all that gave us that AH eye candy!

Turned a hour and a half return trip from my VA hospital into 4hours taking the small roads back through the mountains. Several General stores but no Alpha hunters in stock. Not even that Alaskan Guide produced in 2022. Oh well i’ll keep looking. Look for what i did happen to find in latest acquisitions thread?? 😂

Just checking in. Apparently the 2023 AH’s and AS’s (smaller Scout) were due to be in stock Feb 1st or so but now seems March (which I equate to spring) so i will keep checking.

One thing that I wasn’t paying attention to is the model number of the new soon to be released Alpha Hunter. I don’t know why i was thinking it was a re release of a 694? It’s actually a 664 for the larger AH? It looks the same for the most part so i hope/my hope is the cool brown leather sheath fits my original 694. I just really like a brown leather sheath. Best i can do is “Burgundy” in Buck made and really wish Buck would do more distressed sheaths.

I just checked to make sure but the older Alphas do not fit in the new Alpha sheaths. They are molded to fit the new profile and slimmer handle. Although the blade shape is close they are not the same and the leather strap does not fit around the older rounder handles.

The price of the new Alphas are up there and that’s ok since the S35VN steel is awesome. I wonder if Buck later on will have an option for 420HC or Even D2 to make them a little more affordable? I personally love 420HC though I don’t put any of my knives under hard use such as skinning many large animals or cuttings cardboard at work 6 days a week etc etc…..
my 1979 110 i used as a Fireman for several years has had many a sharpening sessions and the blade shows it.

Is anyone else still waiting in anticipation for the new 664 Alpha Hunter to finally get in stock at Buck?
Sooner or later they gonna have to change it to “coming this summer “

We are almost there just need to build up stock enough to make them live on the website. The wait is almost over!

Thank you so much. My hope is this re release is an overwhelming success. I check everyday since march 1st.

Ok! The 664 Alpha Hunter is finally up for purchase. I think I ordered the first one out of the Mothership? Lol. The obsession to check everyday 3 times a day is over. Whew.
Now to find something else to do…😂🤣

Yes thought i would too? Looks maybe slightly but the 664 feels very good in hand. And the brown leather sheath is right on right on…love it.
Will be carrying this one often.

That sheath looks really great. The grind line is higher on the blade. The jimping is further forward. The space for the pointer finger is a little tighter and the lanyard hole is centered. Similar knife but also subtle changes. I would like to get one in my hand. Thanks for posting a picture of both.

All the points you made are absolutely correct.
And the handle with the flatter sides and that tighter pointer finger space definitely feels perfect to me. Definitely like the grind too.
Please don’t think i’m knocking the original i’m not just think they are different knives more so than i would have imagined. And the new one definitely feels a lot lighter and more flickable if that makes sense?

Love you keeping us up to date. I have been following this knife for some time. I think it may be the perfect skinning knife (at least for now).

Seems it fits in the same shape/category as the Buck 113 Skinner and the smaller 662. Here are the Numbers ---

Buck 664 Alpha Hunter - 3.625 blade length - .139 thick - 4.6 oz - S35VN
Buck 113 Ranger Skinner - 3.12 blade length - .12 thick - 5.2 oz - 420HC
Buck 662 Alpha Scout - 2.875 blade length - .139 thick - 2.8 oz - S35VN
