Here's a good picture of mine. This is such a nice knife, I'm not sure if I'm going to carry it or not. What should I do?? What should I do??  :D :D
PS I removed the thumb stud after the photo was taken. I really wasn't all that thrilled with it.

I've been comparing "handle" profiles and it is interesting that except for the hook on the front bolster, the 560 profile is the same as the Bucklite 426...rather than the 110FG, which is different in the fingergroove spacing and depth...

Buck took the 426 Bucklite profile, added the hook from the 112, scaled in Titanium, and made an "improved" 110/426...

BTW: The owner of that auction said -

The blade 520 N stamped into it. I was told by the store that I picked the knife up at that the blade is titanium alloy. I cannot authenticate this statement. There is no information about blade material on Buck's web site. The handle is definitely all Titanium. The blade looks similar to my old folding hunter except it has a little darker which indicates that it might be a different alloy.

Anybody add anything to that??? Are the blades really Titanium too???

I don't use this smilie:jerkit: ...but for this seller and/or the one who told him that:jerkit: until I get reliable information from ones that know, I think it's use here is justified. Preston

Go ahead; I've decided to make my own. ;)

BTW: If there is anyone reading this with a 186 and could take some measurements for me, I'd appreciate it! :)

What kind of measurements are you looking for on a 186?

Thanks for replying! Can you tell what dia & thread the screws are??? Or if not, the approximate dia of the screw head???

And is the opposite side of the scale threaded, or is there some kind of nut or insert that the screws thread into??? Is the rockerbar pivot a screw, too???

(I was interested in the dia of the fingergrooves, but I figured that one out from the pics!) ;)

Muchos gracias!

I borrowed this quote from the Knife Outlet:
Some knife blades are made from titanium, which is light and anti-magnetic. This is not as practical for cutting as steel but useful in those applications where its benefits are important. As an example, the military employs some titanium knives for use around explosives where their anti-magnetic property provides improved safety
I can't recall any titanium blades, custom or factory, only those with a coating of titanium nitride(TiNi).

I have always understood that titanium is almost impossible to sharpen, not ductile at all. If the army wanted non magnetic blades I bet they would use bronze. Bronze will definitely take an edge. It would look cool too.

allenc has decided to pass on my 560, chickentrax you are next in line. Look in my profile and shoot me an e-mail if you are interested.

My experience in the military was that tools and knives used around explosives were all made of bronze for the reasons mentioned.

I meant I've never seen any, other than those for military applications previously mentioned in the Knife Outlet quote.:)

Here's some recent numbers

The 186's have been in the ~$200 range...

The auction for a 186 that just ended on the bay brought $246.50...the winner was a first time buyer:eek:  go figure:confused:.

Trax, how's your 186 project coming along? Any progress photos? Preston

Well...I could take a pic of the 4" x 6" raw piece of Titanium...and another pic of a Wal-Mart 110...and some socket head cap screws...and a tap...other than that, you is outs of luck... :D

Poor "whatabeaut"...he tried hard...placed 7 bids on that knife!!!!
Now he can use that money to buy about a dozen Wally Tins...keep one, sell the rest for a moderate profit, and wait for the next 186 to come up so he can bid $250.

Story of my...nah...

Trax, here are my questions. Do you think that a 560 could be converted to a takedown verison???? Are you making your own fastners to keep it together, if so is it because you can or you are not able to find the right ones?

My interest stems from a desire to anodonize my crystal Ti 560 another color than gold:barf:. The coloring part seems simple enough. Taking the 560 apart, well, I've never had a problem getting something in that condition. It's the putting back in working order that troubles me.

What are your thoughts on this? Preston
