Buck 715 Has anyone else seen these?

Nearest Walmart had two 715's in clammie hangers today. So looks like they are keeping up with sales at this one, even tho it being deemed a ghetto walmart by locals.

Saw the 715 in Wally World last Saturday but they had a Reaper with Rosewood handles I wanted more. I'll prolly pick up the 715 this Saturday. Like the look of it.

What would you change about the Reaper in order to make it seem more traditional?

no black coating.....less angle of the blade and handle....made of carbon steel or a mid carbon like 5160....im shooting from the hip here.......

Good ideas. No coating. I like 5160 and it's something Buck uses, probably better for chopping. Flat grind. Lanyard hole. Micarta handle like the Mesa. A fire steel in the sheath? That would work for me.

flat grind.......yep. not sure if its traditional for bucks or not...... but i know id sure like it.

The updated Walmart version will have a satin finish instead of a powder coat. But Shack, I like your idea so much that I'm going to ask them to make it for me at Sam's.

Went back to Wally World yesterday and got the Ascend. Really like it! It feels good in my hand. Black locks up firm no blade play. The thumb hole is a bit of a reach but it works. Easily worth what I paid for it.

Wow, I went to four different Walmarts near me today to hunt this thing down. Of course, the closes one to me only had the display model and he refused to sell it to me! :grumpy:

But I have to say, this knife is the epitome of and EDC knife and worth every bit of the $30.

Picked up the 715 yesterday when I went in looking for a 110 (they were sold out). I really like the blade profile, the weight and the size. It's a slim profile, yet it feels very sturdy. It fills a gap between my rat 1 and rat 2 nicely in terms of size. The lock is solid. No blade play anywhere and it is centered perfectly. I don't really favor re-curves but I have a sharpmaker so touching up that small section of the blade shouldn't be a problem. I will say that the majority of the blade was easily touched on a stone however. The grind at the tip was off. One side appeared to be ground more than the other at the very tip. 10 mins on a stone fixed that.

My only complaint (as others have pointed out) is the thumb hole is hard to use. I can open it single handedly with the thumb hole, but it's work and that hole is a tad sharp on the thumb pad. I tried loosening the pivot but that did nothing. I wonder if it will loosen with time? Even if it doesn't, it's no big deal to me. I rarely have an actual need to flip open my knives with a rapid, one-handed flick.

I haven't had it long enough to see paint flaking but even if it does, that won't bother me. I have a sort of "tool" mind-set w/regard to my knives so I don't really care about the handle finish.

Crazy good deal for < $30.

This model is in every wal-mart I've been to. I haven't bought one yet but am thinking about it. The reason I haven't is because of the handle color. I am not digging the blue finish. Just picked up the momentum though and I absolutely love it. My new EDC. Love Buck Knives.
