There's more than meets the eye to removing and replacing a blade on a pinned folder! If charged for the ACTUAL cost of labour plus the upgraded blade, it might well be more cost effective to buy a custom shop knife. I am personally amazed that Buck still repairs, re-blades, and spa treats so many fine old workhorses under nominal fees or free. As others have suggested; why not buy one with the steel you want and have it installed in your frame.
Better get quotes on the price of that job!
good luck

i appreciate your point, but as of yet cant seem to find a bade for it,if you have any suggestions i`m all ears, please no ebay suggestions though many bad expediences wth them

i see you left out that i didn't expect it, was willing to pay for it they teach that in business school, no it was not broken and yes i was willing to pay for it.
they seem to be set up to do it in the custom shop, give me a better reason/reasons, it cant be done, jeez man your a business major, you know it and i know it it would be economic suicide ,to say ok we`ll do it for x amount, then right away people would deduce that they are overpaying for new product , ok how about plan b ,,take one of the blades i`ll buy it, mail it to me i`ll change it myself, i`m not a big company, i`m not set up for it either,i could get some shop in town to do it for me 10 dollars max...but what do you think buck would say "i`m sorry no,but if you visit our custom shop etc etc etc"

your right about me being pissed about it, all the economics aside, if they didn't offer this blade in the custom shop ,none of this would be an issue, and like i first said, the warm and fuzzy buck customer thing, well i just think i will pass on believing it, i`m till looking around for an after market or independent blade for it, if i can find one and its not too expensive i`ll take it out of retirement,if its too much i`ll get a new hunting knife sadly i might add, i remain =unimpressed

They also have people with hands, so I don't understand why I cant go to the Buck custom shop and ask for a back-rub. I am willing to pay for it. They have hands.

Why can they give me a back-rub if I am willing to pay?

It must be bad customer service.:D

do you go to an ice cream stand for gasoline, buck does knives that's what i`m dealing with, knives, your grasping at straws with your analogy, i`ve seen a few, very few good points, in this discussion, but that wasn't one of them,no hard feelings though,

Canadian, do a little searching on this site and you will find custom makers who work on buck knives. The bay has some as well and most can probably be contacted. Also if you posted a querry in a slightly different context someone may step up to help you get your knife a custom blade. It's very doable if you are committed and persistent.
Best Regards
Duane

No hard feelings at all. I have always thought that the coolest knives in the world were the ones that were the most used. It is awesome that you have one of your own. It is also really cool that it is a Buck 110.

How is the blade? Has it been used and sharpened all the way down to nearly nothing? Has a lot of blade-length been lost as well as width?

If the knife still has a useable bade, I would consider continuing using it. That would be my personal preference.

Pictures would be awesome.

It may be a technical reason they don't re blade a standard 110 with a s30v steel blade.Since Cabelas sells the Alaskan Guide 110 they may feel it's ethically wrong to re blade standard 110s with a s30v blade which is basically what Cabelas sells.Buck is still a family owned and run shop and they continue the strong ethics that have been handed down through the generations.Just a guess on my part,if it was me I'd have it re bladed with the 420hc and buy an Alaskan Guide. There's certainly a reason they don't do it because Buck has the best customer service in the Knife Industry.

I used to avail myself of the Buck blade upgrade service. The premium blades were installed at the factory for about $30.00. When the service was discontinued, I bought knives that had the blades I was after and knocked them apart. I reinstalled the blades in the handles of my choice using 1/8" diameter internally threaded barrels with a #2X56 TPI screws on either end. Another option is installing a #5X40 TPI helicoil on one side of the handle and a #5X40 TPI screw on the other. The #5X40 TPI screw is the size used on the original model 186 Titan (Titanium version) of the model 110.

it is real bad,for what its worth i`ll try to post a picture tomorrow, i don't know how to use the wife's star trek type camera, its just gotten thin over the years i have the sharpening skills,i suppose if the blade held an edge better in the first place i woudnt have had to sharpen it as much,

dude have you really even read anything, about this and understood it, buck knife company does offer the blade, but you have to buy it in the custom shop, you can get the blade but you also have to get the handle ,the scales, the bolsters,
what you cant do is send in your knife, and have it done they are hellbent just like all other companies on selling you another knife ..the end

LOl,dude:confused:You're the one that is supposed to close the thread,You just don't get it.:)

i dont share that view, i do someone a favor,i don't expect a payment, i do that same person a service i expect payment

Your asking for something they don't do...regardless of whether you pay or not, to undertake the task itself would be doing you a favor.

You got told "no", for God's sake, man up.

It's Saturday here and I don't know canadian1 personally but he does sound like a chronic complainer or he's trying to build his post count up. Take your prized sentimental valued Buck 110 and put it in a sock in your drawer and go buy a Buck 110 with the s30v blade that you desire. Seems so simple to me.

I think he just came here to have some fun with the Buck Forum boys. It's called trolling.

He's repeatedly been given many good solutions to his problem, but he's rejected all of them and continues to take cheap shots at Buck.

I reported the thread last night, I don't know why it's still going.

if that were true i would be offended, but i`m not, i was open to other viewpoints, and there are a few good ones, but in all honesty, really man, take a look at some of the other ones, its arguing ,no valid points, just arguing and goading ,i will continue looking, everyone says there are people around who can replace the blade within my scope of reqirements, but i havent found any yet,its the way to go ,but no luck yet, it just plain and simply seems to me,.like .i have to take my toyota to a gm dealer for servicing, because toyota dosent want my problem, toyota wants me to buy a new car and whose best interest is being served with that i remain=unimpressed
