Buck-n-Guns

Everything is in such great condition. Thank you for the photo! Is the action and trigger pull on the 27 super crisp?
He had two of these 27's - this 5" barrel and a 6" barrel, both with the wide target trigger and hammer. The action on both is super smooth and snappy. I can't wait to get them out to the range when I get a chance. These two had been "retired" by the time I was big enough to shoot a .357.

Howdy folks,

It's been way too long since I last posted in the Buck forum. My dad passed away in November and I was honored to inherit his gun collection and I figured this would be a great place to show off some of his old guns with my (and his) old Buck knives .

A few years ago I decided to focus my Buck collection on knives from the mid to late 70's. Unbeknownst to me, the majority of my dad's gun collection is from that era (mostly bought new by him).

Pictured below is a 5" Model 27 in .357 Magnum from 1978 along with a Buck 119 and 112, both from around 1978. The S&W belt buckle is from 1979.

Thanks for looking and I'll be sure to post more Bucks-n-Guns in the near future.

Best,
Matthew

Sorry for your loss.
Great looking 27.
Looking forward to more photos

So cool! Was your dad a big fan of S&W revolvers? I for one am and just got off the S&W Forum where i post on a thread with the op’s newly acquired M 27. What a coincidence ehh?
I have several so must post a picture.
Hey David,

He was indeed. There's a good chance it was my thread or that I also posted on it. I have joined both S&W forums recently to tap into the wealth of information there. That's a nice looking 29. I have one of my dad's with an 8-3/8" barrel from 1975 that occasionally used for deer hunting.

Best,
Matthew

My condolences to you and your family Matthew. I was looking at another forum here on BF that has watches and knives and thinking that it had been a while since I had seen you post. Good to have you back.

Thank you. Glad to be back.

This was the first .357 Magnum I remember shooting as a teenager (also one of my dad's favorite pistols) - a S&W Model 66-1 from 1980 - along with his trusty Buck 422OD from 1985.

I've lost track of the number of times he lost that knife in the woods and found it again - one time a year later! He bought it brand new along with a handful of the burgundy handled Bucklites, one of which would become my very first Buck knife.

Thanks for looking.

Best,
Matthew

Matthew's photos and all of this talk about vintage Smith & Wesson revolvers inspired me to snap a photo. This one comes with a little story.

In 1978 at age 17, I worked all summer at my grandfather's service station to make enough money to buy a NIB 1973, Model 29, 6 1/2" barrel, .44 Magnum. The same gun Dirty Harry carried. I remember mentioning to my father I would love to own the same shoulder holster used in the films. Somehow, my father got in touch with Clint Eastwood's office and was told the holster was made by Lawman Leather Goods. He then called the company and ordered one for me. Here is my Dirty Harry collection with the speed loader I purchased the same year and a Buck/Schrade 303.

A lot of beautiful S&W revolvers being posted. I wish I had been collecting revolvers back in those days. Now those same revolvers are very expensive and rightfully so. I am forced to purchase modern day revolvers. My first S&W revolver was a 500 in 8-3/8", not something you really want to carry around. I'll just keep enjoying the ones being posted in this thread.

Okay, one more for good measure while I'm still feeling inspired.

These are my first two. My first gun - a 1978 S&W Model 63 Kit Gun bought by my dad for me right after I was born. And my first knife - a 1984 Buck 422 Bucklite. Of course it was several years after he bought either that I was able to use them, but he was always planned for the future, and I'm glad he did.

Best,
Matthew

At the risk of disturbing the S&W revolver karma going on, I'm going to post my latest revolver acquisition. Ruger Blackhawk chambered in 41 REM MAG., shown with one of my most frequently carried Buck Folding Hunters, a well used three dot. OH
