Buck "Survival" Knife?

I'm going with the 105.

Plenty stout enough to make biggish pieces of wood smallish pieces of wood. Plenty small enough to be convenient for eating, cleaning game, or whittling. Easy enough to clean; no worries about breaking pins or springs. Most importantly, it's a decent size and shape to allow me to make other tools and do day-to-day chores. Easy to carry as well!

I'm going with the 105.

Good choice! Pathfinder = the practical survival knife.

Another 105 vote. It is the only Buck fixed I own, but I think it is plenty of knife for me. If I am gonna hack through branches I need a machete or an axe. For an all around knife, the 105 should be fine.

Love the Pathfinder! One of my very favorite knives of all time.

Thought I posted to this thread, but see I haven't. I guess that is because I'm confused about my survival knife choice. When I'm out and about, hunting and/or fishing I usually have a 110, 118 or both, so that's what I'd have for survival, if I get lost. This year it will be the 692 Alaskan Guide for a trial period.

Now what I'd rather have is the 124. I'm old and weak and don't want to carry the 124 so I choose the 119 because it's lighter and will probably handle the tasks I'd face. The 119, thanks. Preston

It's a solid choice. I hope who wins the sheath wants a bushcraft sheath which goes along with this thread.

Your gear consists of a firestarter, compass, stainless water bottle, and a tarp, but somehow magically, you get to choose one Buck knife (past or present model) for all your survival needs.

Remember Preston, the scenario, as quoted above, is not which knife are you most likely to have on you if a survival situation occured, it's which knife would you choose if a forest gnome (they do exist, you know) granted you any Buck knife. The knife can be past or present and you do not have to own it.

Regardless, you have chosen a very "special" knife.

How about a Buck SwissMate III? It has an almost 4" blade, and who knows when you might need a can opener.

How old and weak are you, Preston? :p You do know that forest gnomes are pretty small, right? :D :)

Real old and weak!!!!! But, but they have magical powers, should be able to transport me to safety. I wouldn't need an survival knife. Preston

I'll make it a vote.

Bert

Got it. That wood saw would come in handy. Thanks Bert!

Would you rather rely on this...

I have to agree with TAH. The Survival Gnome in the handle makes the Buckmaster tops.

Of course that will make it lighter:thumbsup: so I carry that 184, also. Preston
