I have 639 for sale. BillI'll play. I'm thinking I would choose the 639. Lightweight with some alternative cutting surfaces on the spine and no serrations on the blade.
There was a similar thread about 4 years ago.... Dumped in the Woods, what knife and gun.

Is that a vote or a sale ad?![]()
'm selling the Buck 639.Is that a vote or a sale ad?![]()
I'm kind of chuckling that the Selkirk, the knife made to cater to the bushcraft/survival crowd, has only three votes. I'm curious if it's a byproduct of the Buck crowd not really being part of the bushcraft crowd, or a byproduct of the bushcraft crowd not really being part of the Buck crowd?
Seems like it's a nice shape for a hunting knife too.
Yes, I know. This is not the place for a sale alert. The last thing we want to do is upset Survival Gnome.I'm selling the Buck 639.
More than anything, it's probably that the Selkirk is a new model and has the challenge of competing with the popularity and 50-year track record of the 124, 119, and 110. I do not own a Selkirk, but it looks like a capable knife.I'm kind of chuckling that the Selkirk, the knife made to cater to the bushcraft/survival crowd, has only three votes. Thanks for that info. As a result, I had to order a Selkirk to check it out. Will be here Thursday. I have a few knives made in Taiwan, and they are excellent performers. So I have concluded that the quality of manufacture exists in Taiwan, if the manufacturer has a good QC program, and am betting Buck does. I initially voted for the MWG. I think that knife is a great little knife. I believe the Compadre Camp knife and or one of the Ron Hood knives would be one of the best survival knives. High Carbon, Excellent durability modern designs.
Most of these are too big.
I don't want to lug that much weight around at my age.
