Buck Vanguard question for you guys.

Man, after having it for a day I can't think of what I would ever like better than this! ^_^ What similar fixed blades do you have that you could possibly like better than this Vanguard? ;0 ♡
That was a loaded question.... one that I hesitate to even begin to try to answer. My likes change. I like the Buck 192. I wouldn't have said so if I didn't believe that. As you know I own one. I don't want to engage in one-upmanship with you. I really like fixed blades, but honestly seldom really need one or won't have one with me when I might need it. Added: Generally speaking, I'm not a "buck guy". Back when the Buck 110 was the rage, I chose a Schrade 250T and carried it for years as a work knife.

I tend to like a saber shaped fixed blade and I like them pointy even for hunting chores. Don't hunt much anymore. But the preference is there. I like classic looking knives like Randall's but my Randalls pretty much stopped with the #14 and #15 (both fighters with sharpened false edges) although I have a Jack Crider Special (discontinued years ago) that I like. I decided I didn't want to afford Randall's and have four Blackjack knives (1-7, 125, 124, trail guide) that are similar to Randall's at least at first glance. Also have one Bark River knife that is shaped along the same lines but is more of a bird & trout size. My only complaint with the Blackjack classics is that the choil is a bit too long and should be finger width and/or proportional to the blade.

I really like the Kabar Becker BK-15 (discontinued) and look favorably on the BK-16. All that said, I have shifted to something about the size of the BK-15 (5.5" blade) as my general use woods knife size and I do carry the BK-15 from time to time. My latest is the Bark River Wilderness Explorer (5.75" blade) and I just droll when I pick it up. It will probably be carried tomorrow in the woods, but likely won't be used. (The story of my life with fixed blades!) Prior to the Wilderness Explorer, I carried the Dozier Pro Guides knife (KS-3) and occasionally the Dozier Wilderness knife (KS-7). But that one feels a little chunky in my hand. I have 4-5 other Dozier knives too that I like and would choose one of them for hunting today over the Buck 192. The slim Spyderco Moran was purchased specifically to be a hunting blade (great knife).... well.... a lot of knives have come into my possession since then.

I have a number of Condor blades (big and small) and I like their Two Rivers, Kephart, and Bushlore models. Then you add all the fixed blades that I never even look at any more like the SOGs that I mostly purchased around 2005-2007 (my SOG years ;)) I still however like the Seal Pup Elite and Field Pup knives they made or make. As you can see the list is lengthy..... The best I can say is that I LIKE ALL OF THEM, but only really like a some of them. Knives don't have to be expensive for me to like them.

Sparklygalaxy - beautiful knife you have there! I, too, love the Buck Vanguard. It this such a great and practical design. Buck really hit it out of the park with the Vanguard.

I just took a photo to play with my new cell phone a bit. Here is my Buck 197 Yellow Jacket:

I had a Vanguard and really liked it. Mine was the dymondwood/420HC version. Really felt like a solid, efficient little knife, and it didn't hurt that it was nice looking either.

I'm all by myself chillin in my apartment and when I saw this photo I said "OMG what a beautiful knife" out loud even though only the cat and the bunny are here to listen! Hehe ^_^
