BUCKS AND BOURBON

(That used to be where all Woodford barrels ended up, if I remember correctly).
Last time I was in Kentucky, Alltech was using Woodford barrels for their (Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co) bourbon barrel ale. Now that Town Branch is better established, I'd guess that they are using their own.

Ya know... if it wasn't for bourbon, you may not fancy Scotch like you do.

The vast majority of Scotch is finished in bourbon barrels. (That used to be where all Woodford barrels ended up, if I remember correctly).
Doesn’t that have a lot to do because bourbon has to be made in first fill barrels so they can’t be reused in the States.

They absolutely can be reused in the States. Just not for Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
There are wineries in bourbon country who age their wine in KY bourbon barrels, along with sherry, ports, gins, and even beer and other spirits by creative folk who embrace the bourbon.

What I said was meant as a tongue in cheek poke at Scotch, which I enjoy and have several nice empty bottles of. 😉

Correct, although the barrels can be reused in the States AFAIK, just not to make bourbon. I'm not sure if there is a market for them. Scotch makers use a variety of barrels in addition to bourbon, such as sherry, wine and rum barrels. Like bourbon, scotch barrels have to be oak.

I was just poking back! I know a bunch of Scottish people and they always talk about how cheap they are. They would say your welcome for taking the no good barrels off your hands. Didn’t mean anything by my comment.

My favorite type of beer is bourbon barrel(or rum) aged beers.

I almost responded to your original post with, "So there is a good reason to make bourbon", but wasn't sure how serious you were, and I've been known to offend people with my witty repartee.

It's all good!
If something as good as bourbon is merely a byproduct of the waste left from preparing scotch barrels, I'm good with that...lol
