Bad Bud Nealy terrible work

About a year ago my dad linked me to a small advertised auction of a “PA knife maker’s shop” with some older machinery, patterns and more - these were apparently Nealy’s given the patterns and location. Did he move out, close shop, maybe go setup at a new location and having ditched some stale tooling, equipment (and patterns?!) started fresh? Did he sell out what with that Boker line and is now retired?

And if not mistaken his web site is dead... and Facebook I think only updated to 2018... ?

First time I've seen this thread. I read some advice on BF years ago - never deal with a maker that requires a deposit. The poster went into a lot of reasons for the opinion, but that was the bottom line. It has always made sense to me.

I haven’t seen much lately at all on first look on Nealy, but is he still producing and custom? I had one done, an Aikuchi, about 15 years ago and very satisfied - but this is disheartening. I emailed awhile back but no answer. Noticed the website myself and nothing on facebook. I assume he's no longer in the knife business. I couldn't find anything in obituaries, so I don't know what happened. Would have been nice to have something posted by bud or toni. Not even so much as a thank you to all who were our loyal customers all these years.

If I wasn’t short at the time I would have certainly purchased a couple items at that auction - I would’ve liked some of the patterns and unfinished blade blanks. They were his. The appearance of the equipment and environs, if his, looked rough and dated - my assumption was that he was either totally getting out of the business or unloading some equipment (to buy new/better was my speculation). I wish we knew what happened to Bud and wish him the best.
