Hey, cheap knives need love too! While I love drooling over pics of customs, midtechs and CRK knives, my budget just wont allow for any of those knives. So I figured why not have a place to share pics of knives in that "budget" category. There's lots of awesome knives that can be had on the cheap. Now I understand everyone's budget is different, but I consider a budget knife to be anything that retails for double digits($99 or less). So, If you have knives you'd like to share get em up here! I'm always looking for new knives I haven't seen yet, or pics other than what the manufacturer puts out. Make sure to put the brand/model of the knife so if anyone really likes what you have to share, they can go pick one up!

I'll start!

I've really come to like this Schrade hollow-handle "survival" knife, a knockoff of the Chris Reeve design. It's made in Taiwan but the steel seems quite good. Modded mine with a vinegar patina and convexed the edge:

Ganzo... Kings of budget knive

Also kings of theft

On topic, OP, $99 or less is quite generous for a budget knife budget! I tend to think $35 or less. But if it is under a c-note? the options are practically endless.

Pics? You asked :D

Those are all the knives I have owned that were $99 or less and that I have pictures of. Special credit to the Utilitac II, Thermite, and Tremor. They are value champions.

For me budget is under $40... About the Theft... Ganzo only copy the shape of other blades, they don´t sell the knives as lionsteel or spyderco or ontario.. i think that more than theft they reproduce a shape, even the lock mechanism is different..

sigh....

This has been covered over and over. Ganzo produces an unlicensed version of the benchmade axis lock, which they call an axis lock. They then copy the design of other companies and put that illegitimate lock on their copied knives. Supporting such a company hurts this hobby and community. These are inarguable facts that are written into the rules of this place. This being the case, there is no need to argue these facts and derail this thread further

Seriously?

Budget knives these days sure aren't like what they used to be. Not even picture worthy back in the days. A real budget knife. Pssh.

You've got that right. We have so many options now and the quality/support is amazing if you buy from the right companies.

My "budget" idea also stands up to $35-40, and the vast majority of my collection is made out of those "less than $99" folders and fixed blades, here are pics of almost all of them (beware, pic heavy!)

Long live this thread, and the always awesome good budget blades!

WOW! awesome pics guys. Well you guys contributed pretty heavily, should I change the OP to say under $50? $75? $40? instead of $99? I know everyone's version of budget is different. My goal was just to get a picture thread rolling of some of the knives that we have that we may not always post pictures of. There's a million PM2, ZT, CRK, midtechs, customs, etc. on the other pic threads, wanted to see what other people carry for their budget folders is all.

Technically, Ganzo is only selling unauthorized and unlicensed products with any sales in the US as from what I understand, it's patents are US patents which only covers US territory, and are not registered internationally with the WIPO. Law prevents violaters from benefitting from our country, a certain sect, not globally, something probably not considered back in the day before the market opened. Circuit City can't compete at Venue X, but not prevented from entering venue Z.

Internationally, or even on an level playing field, without considering design ownership, if 2 brands were to offer identical designs at a talent show, what it comes down to is who makes that knife better. Now, China trading law has become more relaxed in that they can now trade directly with the US (consumers couldn't buy from China before, dealers/corporations could, hence China made, cost cutting, US specified junk). Oh yes, it was made in China/Taiwan, but it's not a Chinese brand, it's American).

I think this is what Chinese makers are trying to show. That they make our knives how we asked them to make them. Now, they will offer it the way they can make them, and make them just as good or better. It this sense, US makers should be concerned. Shoddy US made shocker anybody?

As they say, if a company chooses to farm to China, expect that's design to be copied within the next 5 years. We copy cultural designs, but it's called a homage. They didn't claim or own rights.

Let's pay special attention to the part of the rules that say these fakes hurt the hobby: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1414533-Axis-lock-flick?p=16309124#post16309124

Nah, no need to change the budget. If that is what you want to ask about go for it. BTW, all the pics I posted have been post on this forum and mostly in the "other thread" often with knives costing 10x as much being carried along with them ;)

:thumbdn: you'd better use another example to corroborate your bold claim there. From all the reviews on ganzo that I read or watched, it is significantly inferior to what's being copied (i.e., Benchmade, Lionsteel, etc.)

Fellas, fellas. Must we do this here? Just looking for some sweet pics is all, not sweet politics.

It is sad but if no one says anything then we are promoting ideas that hurt our hobby and thus this forum. One aspect that folks don't think about when they buy these knock offs is they get no warranty. This is another fantastic benefit of a great budget knife: a great company that stands behind their product. Great budget knives have a quality company that backs up their product. Crappy budget knives that could care less about their customers, the hobby, and this community do not. So when someone brings up such a company, one that our rules here specifically discourage the promotion of, it is important to point that out. I would be more than happy to not have to constantly talk about this subject but people who are either honestly unaware or are ideologically fine with the theft of designs like this and don't care about this community/hobby constantly bring it up. Some learn from these little discussions. I know I did many years ago.
