Budget survival knife showdown.. g803, d-171, td-01

Many knives from china are sht* yes.. but there are gems among those turds.. I don't care where the knife comes from as long as it performs. You guys are too biased to keep your head clear and make a good choice. I came here for advice on how to get the most for that amount of money, but I see all I get is nationalised biased advertising.. so I wish you all well.. topic closed as far as I'm concerened.

Wrong. I own knives from Reate and We. Both are Chinese manufacturers.

Have you ever looked into having a local knifemaker make something for you?
I would love that.. but no knife makers that I know of. There is a blacksmith I know.. but not sure he makes knives.. I gave him some other tools to make for me tho.

That doesn’t seem to be the topic at all. This has felt like a sales pitch for a couple pages now.

If it is a sales pitch I must be the worst salesman because I have nothing to sell. Just wanted to share my experience and thoughts.. it was usefull to me.. learned a few things. I live in Croatia so don't have as many reasonable options as some other countrys do.

If my memory is correct, I believe there’s a maker on here from Croatia. I’m drawing a blank...Dubak?...it’s something similar to that, hopefully someone will chime in.

Hopefully this won't trigger any deal spotting issues as it's a non-domestic retailer and a recommendation for a non-domestic member: Lamnia stocks Moras at competitive prices and should ship to the EU for a reasonable rate. Check them out. You can get the the Robust for the equivalent of a crappy lunch and with it, you're actually being frugal. Not just cheap.

There's even a link there to a video of a couple silly dutchies using a Mora Robust for a bunch of obnoxious "survival" tests. Pretty impressive.

Thanks.. this was really usefull.. Lamnia seems like a good place to order. Didn't know of them before. Shipping is still a bit higher than I would like, but for a good product I can let it slide. I know DBK.. they are fun to watch :D

I'm late to the thread, and probably just piling on. Any Mora, in my bucket o' moras, will outperform the listed knives in your post. Every one in this pile has been put to work.

Taxes are everyone's problem. It's one of only two sure things in life! ;)
I like to do more than just get by in life when it comes to knives, so I will generally save for as long as it takes me to afford a quality knife that also supports the people who designed and made it and the business that sold it to me.
Saving money and delaying gartification isn't well thought of by most Americans and Visa, Master Card, and American Express have profited greatly because of it.

I don't know what your limit is, but I saw that you are in the E.U.. Shouldn't you be able to get a Mora Bushcraft set for around $55. Talk about survival, you get an outstanding carbon steel blade, a kick ass ferro rod, a diamond sharpener, and a sheath with dangle AND belt clip attachments, All in ONE for $55-$57 and be confident in your tool.

How much is the regular companion mg version where you’re at? 3/32 is plenty thick for a knife. People go with thicker knives because they “feel” better. Not because they necessarily perform better. I have the hd version and never use it.

The basic moras are so good that I don’t even bother looking at the 20-100 dollar range anymore. There’s no value there.

Well everyone.. I digged deep and learned that bauhaus in my city actually sells mora pro robust.. cca 18$.. so I placed an order and plan to pick it up there soon.. they also have mora allround pro 16$.. robust is 3.2mm carbon, allround 2mm stainless.. I think robust is the way to go.. although its not full tang.
