Bugout Alternatives

Hello All!!!

I'm sure there are a few people who have started threads that are the same as this one, but here it goes:

Can you recommend a good Benchmade Bugout alternative?

The bugout is probably my favorite knife. I love the dimensions - blade size (3.24 inch), handle thickness (.42 inch), and closed length (4.22 inch).

Where my request might differ from the other - I am looking for something that is higher quality (nicer, better blade steel, better build, better materials.)

I saw that the Hogue Deka and some other ones but I am not sure what else is out there.

Thanks so much in advance,

Spencer
I love my bug out. I would just upgrade and order a custom or possibly the m4 version of Smoky mountain knife works right now.

With all the options you have there's no reason to upgrade if you like the design just build your own.

Another vote here for the Benchmade 531 Pardue. Unfortunately discontinued but still can be found on the secondary market. See if you can get the beautiful version in S90V blade steel :

Did this model come out in 2019?

Haven't read every post here . . .

Has anyone suggested anything from either Randall Made or Chris Reeve?

I don't know about Randall: But It's tough to think of a $400 or so Mnandi as a Bugout replacement...
But it would be a helluva an upgrade!

the 531-1901 did come out in 2019 - hence the 19 in 1901. I almost bought one when they first came out as W&W had them going for $289 CAD or around them parts, but I bought something else though I can't remember what. No biggie as I already had the standard 531 anyway.

Sheesh. Just looked that one up again. Slim. Great shape. Thumb stud. Nice steel. Solid construction. Another one to consider.

I think for the time being I want to get some second hand knives - maybe the deka, slim zt, a nuetron if I can find one. There are so many that I would love to have.
Hell yea man second hands the way to go. You get to experience more knives for your money! I want to try a Deka too. Oh one that I forgot to mention while talking about hogue is the Doug Ritter/Hogue collaberation the RKS MK. 1. Benchmade used to make it for him and it was real popular with outdoorsmen. Hogue does it even better though!

The Mini Freek is a great little knife! It's just a bit heavier than the Bugout.
(But what isn't heavier than a Bugout???)

I have bought and sold 2 of them. They suck, imho. Anyone that likes the Bugout will be disappointed.
I guess that's fair, because anyone that likes the 531 will be sorely disappointed with the garbage scales that the Bugout comes with.:p

I have the 531 and the original bone-stock Bugout and like them both "somewhat" equally. I have absolutely no issue with the grivory scales of the Bugout or their lack of rigidity and use the knife as is with no desire to spend at least the purchase price again just for stiffer scales. But you are correct, I do prefer the 531 a tad (I guess that negates the "equally" part somewhat.:D

Yessir. You, my friend, have probably the single most upgradeable folder on the market right now. It's a hell of a platform to do some customizing. You can make it one of a kind if you wanted.

One cool way to make it different from everyone else's is to get some Flytanium scales in whatever flavor you like and then mod those scales yourself. Their scales are the most affordable on the market as far as I'm aware. You can get some diamond or regular files and carve up some some of their scales however you want. You could use a dremel too I'm sure, I've been meaning to try some modding with the Dremel I forgot I had, ya just have to do a bit of practicing on some scrap materials first.
This post had me do a quick search. WOW! I wasn't blown away by what it is from the factory, but the customization is incredible! Im going to need to find one with the upgraded steel and a set of anodized scales and backspacer. This is just too cool.

Hell yea man 🤙. There's quite a few companies and people making scales for them too.
