Bugout Alternatives

And, I will suggest the suggestion that was suggested to me, in a similar thread.

Cold Steel Air Lite:

This couldn't be farther from a bugout m8. Why are you suggesting it?

No full flat, different lock, no deep carry clip, much heavier....you couldnt have picked farther from a bugout lol.

I guess that's fair, because anyone that likes the 531 will be sorely disappointed with the garbage scales that the Bugout comes with.:p
My CF Bugout Is superb. I don’t know a lot of people with the 531 that really like it, btw.

What exactly caused all the suckage?
The blade shape isn’t effective for cutting most things, the ergonomics are poor for anyone that doesn’t wear small gloves. It was too small to open easily and I never felt like I had a good grip on it.

I guess if you pull down on the Axis button: it flips the blade out a bit...
Ergonomics are a pretty personal thing: sorry that it just didn't fit you quite right...
The blade looks about like a spear point. If it's sharp: it should cut...

I said it was my opinion in the comment you replied to.

I had a hard time getting a thumb on the thumb stud when opening it. The blade has almost no belly which made it less effective for cutting most things I cut. It feels like a tactical knife made for ants.

I think they referred to it as a folding dagger...
For ants…

Anyway if you like it, great. But I consider it a poor substitute for the Bugout. Which btw, I never loved until I got the carbon fiber version so I may just be weird.

some alternatives
ZT0450
BM-940
Spyderco Para3
Protech Malibu

I would also add the WE Banter. It is smaller but very functional and the rigidity gives a feeling of quality

Although the 940 is a wonderful knife that everyone loves, I thought it was a little to big for me. It's not a big knife by any means but I just sold a ZT, TwoSun, and Para 2 because the size wasn't my favorite. All of them were fantastic knives that were well made (and sold immediately) but weren't for me. The ergonomics didn't work. I prefer the SC Dragonfly to the Para 2. Maybe I should be looking at smaller. That Banter might be what I'm looking for as well.

In a rush to push my glasses up my face, and didn't read the whole post m8, lol.

The Bugout is a combination of features that don't seem to show up, anywhere else.

I'm partial to convex zero bevels, and anything else is all the same, to me. The AXIS Lock is making it's way out into the world, but slowly. Weight is another feature I'm indifferent to. On some level, I even equate weight with skookumness.

Pocket clips? Do it keep the knife where I put it? Yes? Good. I'm happy.

I swore off the s30v blue plastic Bugout for a long time and I still do. But when I finally got the cf/s90v Bugout, I knew it is a small sebenza killer.

Joking aside, this knife has all the features you want to have in a small/midsize folder: sturdy (partly due to the lock and the cf scales), elegant, lightweight, quality materials, good blade/handle ratio, nice slicer, neutral handle, reasonable price, and made in the USA.

Seriously, I have not found an alternative to this knife.

I was not expecting to enjoy the Banter
I had an opportunity to get one at a good price so it decided to give it a try
It has been a great surprise
i really like it
I actually prefer it over my McNees PM Mac2….
Quality and material wise the banter is inferior to the McNees but in had and in use I actually prefer the Banter

A collection of smaller blades if your are interested in a size comparison

While tripping and stumbling around the internet: I found this video...

It doesn't solve anything; but this couple seems to have a lot of fun...

Delica is a great small folder that I love. I have handled several Delicas and finally settled down with a K390 version. The two knives are similar in several ways. However, while the overall length of Delica and Bugout is about the same (actually Bugout is a tiny bit longer), the cutting edge of Bugout is about 1cm longer, which is about the same as the cutting edge of PM2.

Now you've got me wondering how it matches up to the PM3 lightweight...
