Bugout price

Socialism has led to the printing of trillions of dollars which has devalued our currency. The Bugout likely costs about the same. The dollar simply buys less.
And if the dollar buys less, just think of Europeans and the current Dollar/Euro parity.

I thought we were talking about the Bugout's price in comparison to other brands? Is the Bugout's price affected by "Socialism" more that other brands?

Does anyone else have some opinion on S45 vs S30V? I hear it is less prone to chip.
…back on topic…
Among the S30V, S35VN, Elmax, and S45VN, yes S30V had the best edge retention.

In his tests, it made about 30 more cuts than the Elmax and S45VN. S35VN was down by about 50 cuts (575 vs 525 iirc). But, S30V is the least tough of the group, with S35VN being the toughest.

I find S35VN to be pretty easy to sharpen so I like that. Generally the tougher a steel is, the easier to sharpen (because the edge rolls instead of small chipping). I like Elmax a great deal too (0566bw, 0770s), but I don’t have as much experience sharpening S30V, and none with S45VN.

I never chipped my PM2 or my 0350, both in S30V FWIW, and I like all the above steels. I really should try some S45VN tho, because Elmax is awesome stuff, and on paper they’re near identical.

The conversation was mostly about the frequency and size of the price increases.

All this over a $16 price hike for something nobody has to buy and that will last for years. No chance everyone is this broke. 😂 So good.

As to the Deka, to each their own. I handled one and didn’t care for it. I understand the appeal.

Freedom!!

Can't really expect the price of something to stay the same forever. Materials cost, labor costs, logistics, inflation, it will all change or alter the price. I'm on the wait list for a chris reeve green beret and they emailed everyone saying the final price for the items are changing for the reasons listed above, sorry OP bit thats life

I am on the CRK wait list for a backpacker and a Magnacut insingo sebenza. At this rate they will cost twice as much as when I ordered them. At least I have plenty of time to put aside the $$.

$16 this quarter. How much the quarter before that, and so on, for the last several years? We're talking a knife that should be under $100 based on the materials (mini grip a couple years ago anyone?), and is rapidly approaching $200. And it seems like every new release the last few years is closer to $250 than $200.

It's not that most here "can't afford it", it's that every new release is less and less value, and coupled with the lackluster designs, I foresee a lot of collectors deciding they have enough, and walking away from the hobby. And all the inflation comments - that's a BS cop-out. The price hikes have been happening for much longer than the current economic crisis.

Absolutely. I asked myself if I wanted to cancel my order, and I decided against it because if I did so, I'll never get it. I actually have the pacific and green beret both in black blade and black micarta un-serrated on the wait list. At the time the cost was 625.00 I really hope it's not something ridiculous like 2.5k. Cause...
I won't be happy if I get stuck forking that out

Nobody likes paying more, but if Benchmade is selling knives as fast as they make them then of course they're going to push pricing.

I love Benchmade and buy them frequently. One thing I've noticed is how recent the manufacturing date is on most of them. Usually the manufacture date is only 3-4 weeks prior to the date of purchase. Sometimes it's less than 10 days. This leads me to believe their product is moving quickly right now.

You won’t get stuck, you can always just say no thanks when your order comes up. And they really did try to not raise prices for a very long time, the raise was fairly marginal imo given how long prices had remained the same, can’t imagine they’ll be doing anything remotely like doubling prices over the next couple years. Though I’ve certainly been wrong plenty before :)

I'm sure the bugout is fine fine for light use, I just immediately had an issue with the flex of the scales when I pinched them. Are they reinforced with steel liners now?

The differences are negligible. If you had two identical knives in each, you would need to do some very specific testing to suspect which is which. 99.9% of users would never know the difference.
There is a difference to note, however negligible CPM-S45VN is a very slight upgrade, while taking on no additional cons, I think we can slowly write CPM-S35VN out of the book. Slowly....

If I’m not mistaken s35 is a bit tougher. Also more of a great value when s45 first hit the market and nobody wanted the junky old s35 anymore so prices on older CRKs for example dropped quite a bit :-)

I stand by what I said. The vast majority of users won't be able to tell the difference. According to knifesteelnerds it should have slightly better corrosion resistance, about the same if not slightly better toughness(negligible), and about the same if not slightly worse edge retention(negligible).

So yes, it should be a very slight improvement, but not one most people will ever appreciate.

BTW, the question was the difference between S30V and S45VN, but S35VN is similar as well.

No but there are scales made from other materials that are not so "flexy". I have G10 scales on my BHQ special and they don't flex much at all. Of course aluminum or titanium scales would solve the issue too.

The plastic scales feel weak and flesh but I have seen torture tests where they really abuse the Bugout with no failures.

The Bugout design is unchanged. It's a steel cartridge liner extending about 40% along the handle.

I love a Bugout. I have maybe 10 of them and all of them have been great right out of the box.

I use the oldest one a lot. Paid $100 for it right when they hit the market. It’s the plain old blue one and while I own a lot of “nicer” knives. The Bugout just fits the bill for what I need in a knife a lot more often than other knives do.

My favorite is the S90V carbon fiber one they came out with a few years ago. It’s a little heavier but I love the S90V so much that I put up with the weight gain.
