Things have been kind of slow and boring lately so I decided to have a little fun with a give away contest. I picked out 6 cool blocks for prizes. There will be a drawing at about 5PM PST on Saturday 4/10 and each following day until all the prizes have been claimed.

These are the prizes

The blocks are:
A- Maple - Won by CP2U
B- Redwood -Won by Dwayne Gibbs 4/10 drawing
C- Maple Won by hathegkla 4/11 drawing
D- Sycamore - Won by Tattooed Freak
E- Maple - Won by Teacher
F- Redwood - Won by Phil705

Here is how the contest works.

To enter the contest make a post and say something entertaining that the other forum members will want to read.

The number of your post is your entry number.

Only enter once.

The winners will be selected using a random number generator each day at 5PM. The number of your post is your entry number.

The winner for that day's drawing will be posted. The winner has until 4:59 PM the following day to claim their prize by posting in this thread which prize they have selected.

If the prize is not claimed in time the contest will be extended another day and another drawing will be made.

The winners get's to pick which block they want. First winner get's first choice and so on.

I will pay for shipping within the US. Outside the US shipping will cost $12.

I may not be making many. I am however putting new handles on several. thanks for the chance. DSG:thumbup:

I'm in as well! :D

As as for something interesting that other would enjoy reading, I have almost completed the beginnings of my forge and will be up and running soon. :)

Im in for this but the only thing interesting I have to say would be about how not to make knives. hmmm actually about the fist couple of knives that I made and gave away before I realized that they were made out of mild (non-hardening) steel.. What an edge they would take and then lose. :-) I am in the navy and I still use one of them while Im on board ship. It's a big chunk of relatively sharp metal that makes everyone wonder about me.

Oh and Im in the middle of fixing up my shop, making a forge and trying to get used to my new (to me) grinder. The redwood is nice but that sycamore is really cool looking, I think it would make a beautiful handle.

damn thats sum pretty wood!!! bought an old indian looking knife from the pawn shop for next to nothing and brought it home and figured out its cable damascus.

"I am in" I am fairly new at this, or maybe I'm just off to a slow start. I made my first knife in March of 2008. If I win this contest according to my calculations :yawn:I will probably use the wood on knife number 15.

Thanks for the great contest Mark!

I'm in, I've been rearranging my shop, bought several new tool stands to put a couple grinders on and my Tempering oven. My work bench area had become almost nonexistant. I also picked up a very nice vacuum system off craigslist, next project is running the pipe and ports, then maybe I will be able to keep the place in a semi state of clean. I plan on venting the vacuum through the exterior wall into a galvanized trash can with water in the bottom. Guess I will have to see how that is going to work

I'm in with helpful advice:
Don't use JB Weld to "glue" 40's redwood burl scales to you knife. It penetrates the voids, etc., much more deeply than I imagined it would. :-(
I lucked out by trying it on a very small piece.

it is April 8 5:23 PM in Southern California, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say in waiting for a big earthquake in the very near future. Nice blocks of wood I will find something knife related to do and probably my first handling project.

I"m in! Be respectful of bacteria. It's the only culture most of us have.

I'm in! Thanks, Mark.

You know, the other day I was thinking while walking down the street and something came to me. It was a dog.

I'm in. I have a new 10 week old angel, Addison at home so the knife making has slowed some, but I have a blade read for HT which that Sycamore would look awesome on.

I would like to join the contest. My 4 year old loves knives, and likes the ones i have been making. problem is he wants his own already. He Keeps telling me "i'll be careful and would never get hurt". I just keep telling him not yet.
