Bushcrafting cargo rigs

I got this Arktis rig. The truth is that I haven't worn it much. I got my Condor II pack at the same time and I wound up using that a lot:

Seems well made, and not as pricey as some...

Hi Bushman,
is that Terminator 2 on the telly in the pic of your GF?

uh no that was, uh, a , uh , intimate video me and the GF were watching.....:D

It was SPERMINATOR 2 !! :D
BTW, how did you find a ninja GF?

On topic:
I've put together a rig based on a Tactical Tailor 2-piece MAV with the X-Harness. I'll get pics one of these days.

???? why can't you? Is it it against the BF rules? Pretty sure I've seen links and prices before

i have a 2-piece Tactical Tailor MAV that i have used for a long time, for long term stuff.

i put the optional top harness on it, which is the best there is IMHO.

i have some simple utlity pockets on that rig that will hold most things i need at hand, with some M4 single mag open pouches underneath on the sides, to hold a mag or pistol.

as you can see, i lean towards the GP stuff, and simple straight-forward designs.

RIBZ packs have go to be the simplest (and lightest) i've used, and i really like them for many reasons.

i have a couple RIBZ packs that have rapidly become favorite go-tos, because they don't have big hot spots from big fastex clips and such, and they hide pretty well under a jacket. they are really great with a daypack.

some of you might remember that i fre-dived and spearfished in my first RIBZ which i filled with rocks as a weight belt substitute, so the fact that they are cheap plus they are simple and good is pretty nice. if you are a modder, RIBZ are for you.

i've become friends with RIBZ founder, brother ray. he backs his product, and that's all ya can really ask in the end, i reckon.

here's a decent gallery page for them.
http://www.ribzwear.com/gallery.htm

i'm supposed to go out next week for a midweek overnighter to do some scouting - i'll try to stop and get some pictures of the RIBZ, but the gallery says it all.

look RIBZ up on YouTube if you want to know more.

HTH.

Does a belt count?

This is what I've been playing around with recently.

-Voodoo tactical belt
-survival sheaths survival sheath
-some generic canteen
-condor outdoor roll-up pouch
-condor outdoor flashlight pouch (i may or may not keep)
-condor outdoor H harness (i may or may not keep)

+soon adding Maxpedition M-1, to serve as a FAK

I love the roll-up pouch mainly cause it serves as my misc carry, so I don't have to fiddle around with taking off/on different pouches.

Crappy cellphone pics too, really need to invest in a new camera instead of pointy/pouchy things :D

Belts should count, same basic concept really. I had a Blue Force Gear SOC-C Belt, got it like right after it came out just to try out for no reason other than I had a years worth of recoverying from surgery so I was't lugging around my pack, just walked in more ruralish greenbelts so I could muck about instead of sitting on my ass playing xbox.

Anyways, it was built very well, great adjustment system, I have nothing but good things to say about it, the people who made it nor the place online I got it everyone was great, it just wasn't for me, used it once, didn't like it at all, sent it back to above mentioned website (this was actually when I got my worthless silverthorne too) Anyways again sent it back, they were totally cool with a refund since it was used once and i had the original bag and the tags and everything still.

Now...If there were better belt/vest combinations available I would be inclined to try that again, I know Eagle, and various companies make a vest that fits with a typical web belt but not a padded belt with MOLLE or whatever kind of attachment you'd like to use.. I think my pack days are over.

Hey Bear my gamertag is THOR5734 hit me up if you play L4D or L4D2 or Bad Company 2 I am always looking for gamers who aren't 12 yrs old to add to my friends list.

Back on topic, my surplus store sells different widths of nylon webbing and all the different assorted buckles one could want so for $3 I made my own belt made it long out of 2" webbing so that I could use it like a baldric too if I wanted.

Yes, belts count! I think I mentioned belts, in fact that was more of what I was looking for. I want to build a primitive baldric/bandoleer/belt rig out of leather/canvas that is low profile and can securely hold my gear.

Oops yes you did, that's what I get for posting while half asleep lol

I was thinking baldric style too, mainly I like the suspenders cause I can unbuckle the belt during rest/break times and still keep the whole setup on me. If it was just the belt, I'd have to put it down which I'd rather not do. But if I could take wear just a belt setup baldric style as well as a belt, then it'd work perfectly. I may break down and get a belt setup where the belt isn't sewn into the padded part like my voodoo. That blue force gear soc-c looks pretty darn tempting.

I've used a version of this vest: mine's an old used South African military versian which is more of a canvas material... I carry a stove and small folding kit in the back compartment and the two front main pockets can hold a Nalgene bottle... Actually very comfortable and was actually cooler than a pack on a hot day hiking in the Cascades one summer a couple of years ago. Arm swing is a bit of an issue, but since I was on park trails, I use hiking poles to help my knees and for stability - they keep your arms out from the body a bit... I'd recommend these as they are pretty cheap for what you get.

I also came across a version of this Pilot Survival Vest from, IIRC, WW II ?
Nothing on the back but mesh, so I usually wear it under a jacket in cooler weather. Basically carries all the small stuff, but not water or stoves.

another rig of mine, Postal guy dropped off my new KIFARU G2 E&E pack, which i promptly made into a load bearing rig by adding my 5.11 med pouches to the lower straps. One med pouch has no FAK logo on it, its used for my firekit, hygiene kit and other hiking essentials. I can open it while walking and grab what i need without taking off the pack. The other one has a FAK patch and is my wilderness FAK carrier.

CLICKABLE THUMBNAILS

Very good choice on that E&E, I have a G1 and it's been used for just about everything, hiking, carrying random things while in in the city, hospital bag, all sorts of stuff. Very versatile if you add a couple of pouches to it, I had three no name medical zip up pouches going around the center, kinda looked like a drunk version of an ALICE pack.

bunch of great componetns, brother, but i think that the cordura and genral width on those side pouches are going to make it impossible to have short sleeves with, especially when you are sweaty, they are going to tear ya up, i reckon.

i like the thought process a lot though! - i like the Camelbacks as sort of a free-floating H-harness/weaposn retainer in a similar fashion with some RIBZ.

- i bet some smaller thinner pouches on your new rig would be worth the decrease in volume.

i use shotgun pouches a lot for quick sorting and get-to's. - got some plans to do a bandoleer with some modified ones.

Kifaru is outstanding.

I've been looking at that E&E bag, the piggyback system is pretty slick. Price tag is a bit rediculous though. I just bought 5 yards of premium tanned elkskin so I think I'm going to be attempting this kit myself. I need to get a leather punch yet, but hopefully I can build this entire thing with some utility pouches and knife sheaths for less than 100 bucks.
