It can't be that heavy. LOL I would say that if you are under 50lbs you are good to go. Then you can add things other than knives. ;)

It's about 25 without any clothing food or sleeping bags. Aiming for it to be a 3 day trip pack and maybe end up getting something else for a day pack. Was looking into the maxpedition monsoon for that possibly.

The Maxpedition Falcon II or Sitka make great day packs. I did a 6 day trip with a 35lb pack and it was no problem.

35 in the sitka? Or the falcon? I'm still trying to figure out what I want. Torn between those two and the kodiak(larger sitka) I like the idea of the slings but worried with only one strap it might not be comfortable if I put much in it.

I have a Maxpedition Monsoon and like the sling bag for around town, in and out of the truck type things, but in the field I was sore after a half day. I just got this, a 5.11 Triab 18 which is similar to the Monsoon, but has a hidden strap so it can be worn as a sling bag on either shoulder or as a backpack. I've only had it since monday, so I don't know how the long run will be, but the quality is excellent and it seems to solve all of the dislikes I had about the Monsoon. I did like the monsoon's snap front pocket to throw a sweatshirt in but this has a "y" strap on the bottom for a similar effect. We'll see how that works out. Also attached is my new Ratweiler.

Pretty nice setup, I loved the monsoon at first but it just doesn't have very quick access to things and not much organization. Think I'll try the falcon 2 bit I may look into that one!

ZanMartin, look at the flag on mine, right above that is the opening for concealed carry, lined with hook and loop. If you have it slung, it slides right under your arm and that pocket comes naturally to hand. Also this has an ambidextrous speed zip, which opens from the bottom corner on either side of the pack to the top and the whole front lifts off but a 4" piece at the top. There is a good video on youtube where this is demonstrated. The concealment pocket on the monsoon was on the back and was meant to be used by reaching behind your back. I couldn't use it comfortably, so I'd carry my laptop there.

Here is a pic with both open

Here they are side by side

well, photobucket has stopped working, I'll try again later.

Wish I would have gotten that instead of the monsoon! I watched a video, really does seem like a more functional monsoon

Does anyone have a recommendation for one that doesn't look so tacti-cool? Open to fancy brands too!

5.11 has a Covert Triab, Which I think is the same bag I just posted in civilian colors with no molle. It still appears to have the concealment pocket.
