Busse as a carry weapon?

Thanks for the pic, lvc.
Jerry- May we a another run of Rat Tails please?

IMO, the reality of knife defense is mostly one of fantasy. In a situation where you'd want to reach for your knife, even people who are well trained at drawing ASAP would be hard pressed to get it into the fight soon enough. Most self defense situations occur in such a way that you don't have time to employ a knife and if you did have the time..... likely you would have a hard time explaining why you employed the knife as you'd likely have time to hastily leave the scene, which is obviously going to usually be your BEST move.

To further illustrate my thoughts on this matter, here's a link to an article with 10 Lies about Knife Fighting......

http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/knifelies.html

In the scenario above - being attacked by a pit bull - your best move would be to simply grab the front paws and rip outwards like you're breaking a wishbone. This was taught to me by a fellow who raised wolves, this move should instantly kill and or incapacitate ANY canine you may encounter. If I remember correctly, it only takes about 8 pounds of force to break this structure so most anybody can use this with outstanding results. In most cases, dogs will jump at you to go for your arms OR throat which would be the most opportune moment to employ such defense. The most important thing however, is to see the attack coming and remaining calm so you can be relaxed enough to make the right action.

Knife fights suck. I don't care who you are, you will be cut and/or stabbed. And it hurts. A lot. I carry the knife as an all around tool that could be used for defense if the situation arose. In Texas, using an edged weapon is deadly for, and if it's time for deadly force, my pistol is going to be in my hand.

As far as dogs, aside from trained K9s, I haven't met one yet that didn't rethink it's priorities after a good hard punch to the nose/snout. I talked to my letter carrier about dogs one day when he heard mine, he carries Sabre OC/CS for them, but smacks them in the snout first as it works 9 times 10.

My Belgium malniois broke somebody's arm through the bite sleeve. Sweet dog but he loves the sleeve. I would feel sorry for anyone he felt was a threat. As far as being attacked by a dog, once it has biten you, you are going to be struggling like crazy to get it off you. Best option is to kick and hit and slam it's head into the ground. Idk I wouldn't particularly want to kill the dog, but I certainly would hurt it enough to know not to do that again.

I haven't once regretted training a few mountain lions to play gargoyle on my roof. Haven't even gotten a bill since!

I have thought about if I had to use a busse or kin knife as a weapon. I only have a boss jack and a rodent 9, but if they are any indication of the style, they would be good a choice because no matter how you hit them it is going to hurt. I mean if you had a iron bar blank of a either that was the same weight you would be fairly formidable. I believe that it wouldn't matter where or how I made contact with my rodent 9, it is going to do some damage.

I wonder when we will see a thread about using a knife for self defense that doesn't have a bunch of people saying how bad an idea it is. Yeah, we all know and I have no training, but it is a thread for fun. I am not saying that the information isn't good or relevant, but is a thread about day dreaming over knives the best place? Idk I have just read it all and nobody has nothing new to say about it.

Self defense is a state of mind. One must be constantly aware that something bad could go down at anytime and anything can be used in self defense. If one HAS to use a knife in SD one will. And, you are correct, there is nothing wrong with daydreaming.

Jerrys working on a pistol now, it has INFI bullets, satin finish slide and snakeskin grips! Im one of the beta testers...

I apologise to leviathan for turning this thread into a dog defense thread, first of all.
I had a 100 lb american staffordshire who was a sweetheart, but we played rough. A dog like that, motivated to attack, is not going to be stopped with a slap to the nose. Or any thing short of incapacitation. I had a cyclone fence she would climb to play with the neighbor kids, but she would always pop the basketball. So i installed the electric fence with the collar, long story short, it had no effect except to make her climb faster, even on the highest setting.
Pepper spray may work, but is illegal to carry here. A club may work but is inconvenient to carry with the leash and flashlight, while the knife slips in a pocket or iwb. I carry a whittle stick in my back pocket,
to help talk myself out of a police officer's questioning, as well as brush clearing, since the trails are still messed up since the hurricane. Pepper spray or an asp baton have no other use than as a weapon, a definite trip to the lockup around here.
If attacked by an armed person i will drop my wallet and run like a reasonable person should, if that is not an option, (surrounded, with my wife, etc.) i have a bit of martial arts experience, a bit of real world experience, hopefully the bigger knife, and i fight like a 200 pound chimpanzee on wine and zanax.

My carry depends on where I am heading. Just walking around town I always have my Rat Trap. Heading into the woods, B11.

I carry a mean street, in a rainwalker inside the waist band sheath. I normally wear a !blackhawk belt or a standard military grade webbing belt and it is virtually undetectable in uniform or in jeans. If you live in an area with conceal carry laws you can expose the top of the knife to be in compliance. Fast deployment is a bit tricky but with some practice it is easy.

I dunno, I think busse and kin lack jimping. It would be nice to see some one day.

I had that dream too!

Boss Jack or Tankbuster, like dude said. I don't really think there are any Busse's that are intentional fighters, there are a lot of factors that go into the design any kind of knife, regardless of what it's made for and Busse knives, to me, are ultimate tools, not weapons. There are fighting knives out there, kind of an ironic thing since knife fighting only exists in parts of the world where a $100 knife is as out of reach to them as a Ferrari or a yacht...

The legality is the major thing, make sure you're not putting your carriage in front of the horse. In most places restrictive enough to make carrying a concealed handgun either flat out, all inclusive illegal or make the process to obtain the permit so hard it might as well be, they're going to have extremely strict knife carry laws as well. I found a knife law in a county here that stated you couldn't carry a fixed blade in town at all, regardless of size. There is another law I found that stated that carrying anything that could be readily used as a stabbing implement is a felony... But I like carrying my pen...
