Busse ASH Transformation

Fair enough, friend. At the time of my first post, I didn't know Busse offered the option of a convex edge. I've never heard anything I don't like about INFI steel, I'm all about giving up a little edge-retention to get more toughness on a big knife.

Dammit, now I want one too!! :D

*Sigh*

Sadly, I know the feeling. Even after I already have a few.

You can pick up a skinny ASH (as you've seen here, an excellent 'starter blade' for the handy) directly from Idahoskunk at the Busse Company Store.

But you might want to poke around and see if one of those Competition Grade SARs pops out. Rough, tough, rude ... and yes, a very nice convexed edge.

Hey Horndog, would you be willin to do your magic on on of my Busses if I was inclined and had some $$?

man simion did a good job here is my moded nmsfno

WOW!!!
i freakin' love how the majority of busse knife threads go...lol
EVERYONE has an opinion, and really none are right, or wrong...they are OPINIONS!
to my thinking, busses come the way they should, as a platform or foundation...if they all came convexed, it would leave some users and there respected uses out, but by coming as a platform or foundation on which to build, they can become almost anything for anyone.
the steel and its attributes lends itself to playing MANY roles, and doing it well.
are they mucho dinero...YEP...
are tehy for everyone, probably not...
but those of us who choose'em, find a vlaue in them, not speaking of monetary, though they hold resale, and usually increase...
i have an skinny ash also, have not got as far as convex it YET...
it's next, i can tell you this...imo there is no better all around knife than this...again, imo.
it's thin enough to slice, say camp food or clean fish...
it's rugged enough to baton with, and i DO NOT mean gingerly, i mean TRULY baton with...
it will do some chopping, but i do not beleive that to be it's strongpoint.
the role it will play for me is it will reside in me daypack/overnighter...
if i am truly gonna be camping longer a heavier chopper specific blade will accompany me...BUT, if i HAD to...i feel VERY confident in this blade doing ANYTHING i ask of it...

ESTELA...NICE JOB!!!

Thanks. I need to get the proper equipment to remove the tube fasterners so I can sand the flat ricasso and pommel to remove the rough INFI "dimples" and then re-attach the scales. All my Busses except my ASH1 SE have these nice convexed edges but rough pommels and ricassos. I guess it has become the Horn Dog look. Maybe one day I'll do that and make them right.

Drill them out, there is a tutorial on how to reattach them on the busse forum if you search. Basically if you have the right tubing it does not look too involved. A vice, some cut off screw heads and some lube to do it.

All my Busse so far are modded. At least convex edge. My FBMLE has the beginnings of a convex edge. Unfortunately, I sliced my right thumb to the bone last month, and severed the nerve, so I have not finished the hand convex job on the Big-un yet. I am going to continue when the right thumb no longer has lightning bolts every time I brush the still healing cut. (and for the record it was not infi that cut me, it was a hand made knife I finished up right before Christmas, I guess that is what I get for making it so sharp)
