As Dave said, it will be a great all rounder. INFI excels in super hard use, that's where it really shines, and this knife will be an awesome chopper, splitter, general abuser. However it will also be a good size for general camp food prep, bush survival etc. INFI is an awesome all rounder steel, and this knife design will complement that. And it's mega easy to sharpen. The handle design is super comfy too.I like your style!
Great thing about Busse is they hold their value. You can always sell it off and recoup most/all of your costs if you decide it's not a model for you.
Given your extensive experience with INFI, how do you like it for knives this size vs other steels? I simply lack much experience with INFI.
My thoughts are, the smaller the knife, the more I value abrasive wear resistance and not toughness, since I'm doing more slicing cuts (I'd likely use steels other than INFI). The larger the knife, the more I value toughness and edge stability and not abrasive wear resistance since it's being used harder and in more push style cuts like chopping (INFI, D3V, etc). Somehwere around that 5-7 inch blade range is where it gets a little hazy as you're in between use cases like I mentioned above and this knife fits in the upper end of that range.
Thanks I didn't know that. I just prefer magnum scales they fit my hand better. My wallet may not thank you though. On a more serious note, I have a feeling based on looking at the pics we do have that it's pretty similar to the Jack Hammer 10 handle dimensionally. I'd be shocked if it were as thin as the Axe Hammer or standard SJTAC handles, it seems many here really do prefer the magnum style grips and Garth recently noted that they just did away with the standard vs magnum option a while ago and now everything is just magnum.
Right well I only seen this now and it majorly helps. The handles look great so there goes my credit card.
It might be cheaper to just buy the scales...Right well I only seen this now and it majorly helps. The handles look great so there goes my credit card.
Good point. I'll use this for far more heavy use so INFI is actually preferred. The fact that it's so quick and easy to sharpen pretty much makes any potential fine edge retention issue a non-issue as I can get it back to screaming sharp in no time.As Dave said, it will be a great all rounder. So the canvas option means it's micarta? It does not look like micarta to me, please confirm. The micarta will definitely be more grippy in hand, but the G10 with the way they groove cut the G10 is also good.
Me, I prefer the micarta though.![]()

Understood, thanks.I believe they spray the handle with an oil. If you scrub the handle with hot soap (like dish detergent), it will look like the micarta finish you might be thinking of. Take a look in the AFBM thread and you will see this.
This... sorta. I don't have the sjtac, and only the BG BATAC. But I do have the Axe Hammer and the Flak Jak. All fantastic, with the points they have. This one is just not speaking to me, though. A little too close to my multiple TGULBs and multiple Hellrazor IIs. If it had the pointier, penetrating point, maybe it would.Love the old sjtac and batac, the grip fits my hand in multiple positions. I like a thicker handles more than the old flat slabs, but not the squared off ones, they need to be rounded. The one big difference I note is the blade design . The original had a good point on it for penetration , while this one almost looks like a smaller ash2 blade . I really liked the jack hammer 10 , and hoped they would have offered a 6.5” version of that as it felt perfect . Getting a black g10 on stonewashed and a black canvas on green blade for field use . Looking forward to these
I on the fence. The like the way the handle transitions to the blade upper part and lower. I prefer the look of the swedge of the other jacks better though. Mmmm. On the fenceThis... sorta. It IS a fantastic looking knife, and I'm sure it will be a fantastic knife. Good luck to all of you.
The swedge my old CS Batac Variant had was what made the knife for me. Kinda wish I kept that one, and the CS Ratmandu.. the RMD had the most ergonomic palm swell I've ever felt on a Busse. Dont even remember who I sold em to. Regerts lol.. but someone is enjoying em so whatever.I on the fence. The like the way the handle transitions to the blade upper part and lower. how many days those the last call usually last?
Or is it qty limited ?
thanks. It’s usually a matter of hours. There’s always a few posts like “oh I was gonna make an order but it went so fast” not too long after the sales close.
