Busse Combat Is Proud To Introduce The Satin Jack TAC 7!!!. . . . Coming Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 9PM Eastern

I can certainly appreciate that they post these types of videos at times but they mean almost nothing in the grand scheme of things to me personally. Unless there are measurements being taken of the overall geometry of the knives in real time prior to the testing (like the recent Nathan the Machinist video posted here) then the ultimate takeaway means little. It's very easy to overbuild a knife and test in such a way as to make almost any knife appear very durable. Without these sorts of metrics being discussed I would put those types of videos in the entertainment category.
I agree

So by some miracle I've avoided the impulsiveness to buy right on the drop and have given this some further thought.....

How is INFI in a knife this size?

I already have CPM-4V, SR-101, and D3V in knives this size and INFI in my larger chopper (AFBM) where is seems best suited for. Is INFI giving me anything I don't already have in knives this size?

I'm sure most of you are similar in knives you own, so what is everyone's reasons for buying this? Probably just for the fun of having it I imagine. I mean, I get it, variety is the spice of life and this model looks awesome, don't really need a good reason, just do it because it's fun and you enjoy it.

I'm just struggling with the whole "be a responsible adult" thing which is getting in the way of having fun. Mainly because I was, well...... highly irresponsible most of last year! Lol
If you don't need it don't buy it.

I like your style!

Great thing about Busse is they hold their value. You can always sell it off and recoup most/all of your costs if you decide it's not a model for you.

Given your extensive experience with INFI, how do you like it for knives this size vs other steels? I simply lack much experience with INFI.

My thoughts are, the smaller the knife, the more I value abrasive wear resistance and not toughness, since I'm doing more slicing cuts (I'd likely use steels other than INFI). The larger the knife, the more I value toughness and edge stability and not abrasive wear resistance since it's being used harder and in more push style cuts like chopping (INFI, D3V, etc). Somehwere around that 5-7 inch blade range is where it gets a little hazy as you're in between use cases like I mentioned above and this knife fits in the upper end of that range.

I can’t compare it with my other knives because with Infi comes Infinite peace of mind. When you buy Busse, not only are you buying a super tough semi stainless blade, you’re buying into an agreement to be taken care of no questions asked under any circumstance. Hakuna Matata. No worries. Use it, abuse it, smash it, throw it, hammer it. Give it your all and it’ll keep coming back for more. Put your own edge on it. Make it yours. And in the end if it’s truly not a model that fits your needs, Let someone else make it theirs and get 95% or more of your money back. Win/win/win.

I like the size, only have two knives in that blade length (SDFK). I expect this one to be a better cutter. As a user, between D3V and INFI, for me, it’s a wash, INFI corrodes a little easier, maybe.

I should add: I have a couple of SODs as well, but I consider them completely different, as they are more front heavy.

what I like about it is the Blade width not thickness of the blade.

They look taller than the old SJTAC, Flack Jack, JH 10 and so on

I think it will be one heck of a knife.

A great all around camp knife.

Long enough to chop with

small enough to do other camp chores IE. fuzz sticks, processing, trap making and so on.

simple enough I think ?

Thanks for that. Is it due to the grind geometry that you expect this to be a better cutter than the SDFK? The SDFK has some pretty good geometry at around .030ish behind the edge so it should cut well.

I too like this size. I've been increasingly buying a lot of knives in the 5"-8" range. Seems like good a good "do-everything" size.

And as David Brown said, I really like the taller blade on this!

Yep. This is what I’m hoping for. I asked about blade width earlier - I’d like to know if it is actually a bit wider or if it’s just the camera angle making it look that way.

Just thinner stock - and just a guess. We'll see ....

If past Busse knives are any indication, I would expect the Carothers to perform better as a cutting tool with factory geometry. Reason being, I'd expect the Busse edge to have a bit more obtuse edge geometry as I've seen CPK tend to be sub 20 DPS advertised.

Busse of course does not list this spec, which would be nice having an estimate if nothing else. They have at times given thickness at the edge prior to sharpening but I can see little value in this metric as it doesn't tell us what the edge angle is combined with the thickness behind that edge bevel.

Based on how the pics look, the only small detail I would have preferred be different is if it came with the round pommel that was offered with the tank buster. In any case, I think they may have made a great knife here.

Between this one and the AFBM… Busse is on a roll.

How is this knife different from the flak jack. I like the looks of that knife.
It has a longer blade than the FJ (about 1.25" longer), is a little thicker stock (.21" vs .18"), has a straight spine past the ricasso to the tip, (unlike the FJ which has 2 long scallops on the spine) & it has no swedge near the tip like the FJ does.

Amen! 😎👍

If you are OK loosing half an inch of blade, you could always get an NFNO instead.

Thanks jaxx
Does anyone have a FJ to sell me 😄
