Glad you brought it back. I missed it entirely, can’t wait to see the results of the “other” steels!!!
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).
Order here: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/2024-traditional/
First test videos are TWO WEEKS out.
Was such a video ever made? I would be really curious to see a side by side between of these two steels in this application. We are running some INFI "Free Rein" swords along with some other steels in this next batch in order to do a direct side-by-side blind comparison with the exact same geometry.
We will publish the results when they are ready.
Should be fun!!!

Shout out toNuker for the deal on the fr28.
Cold day yesterday in Michigan. I think the high was about 11 degrees and we are getting stir crazy. My new to me free rein 28 arrived so I had to give her a proper break in. We had this, a bg ak47, and a friend brought his INFI ak.
After remodeling a couple bed rooms, my garage is packed with junk until spring. We decided to hack up some bed frames and furniture. Mix of press board, hardwood, aluminum, and a couple bolts were damaged in the shenanigans.
I dislike the hard, slippery, thin handle on the fr28. So I wrapped her in a layer of hockey tape. This improved the grip and feel big time.
I liked the balance, the shock absorption, and overall damage of the free rein more than the ak47’s. I felt like the sweet spot was more in the middle of the blade on the ak’s, where the free rein bit deeply in the middle all the way to the tip. The penetration seemed a little deeper swinging the fr28 also.
The sr101 suffered minor edge rolls where it hit aluminum and a bolt while the 3v and INFI remained undamaged. The dark green coating on the fr28 was by far the least wear resistant. Looking more used than the other 2 even though it was the only new sword.
My personal opinion is that this blade is the one I would choose as a user over the 2 ak’s. Busse’s 3v seems like a real winner. I bet giving INFI a run for their money in toughness.

I already disposed of the packaging. It was hockey tape I found at dunhams sporting goods. Its cheap, 13 bucks for 3 rolls. I used maybe a quarter of a roll, I figured I had enough to do some trial and error when it came to what felt good. Honestly, the first go around was pretty nice and felt good in hand, Ill have to see how long it lasts and try it again soon on a re-wrap when needed.SE Michigan here.
Any particular brand of tape?
