Busse Head? Porkers?

I am out of popcorn so I'll have to munch on a candy bar. What distances some folks from Busse knives is directly related to their price point. No big enigma here. And yes, there are a bunch of people who have never picked up one let alone use the blade in the field. Another critic has pointed out that they are over-built, thick wedges of steel.

Busse blades are excellent tools that have been proven in the field. I still use my Basic 9 for all manner of tasks and it just keeps going with nary a moan...that knife was purchased WAY back in the day. Frankly, I am amazed at how semi-rare they are. Try picking one up for a song at a local gun show! Good luck, you just won't see them. I suspect the Scrapyard knives will also be very high on the 'collected' list one day. The Dogfather impressed me as being just about as bullet proof as you can get... and the steel in this knife has lived up to all my expectations. I don't see that much difference in performance when contrasted with my INFI blades.

Had to smile a bit at the 9mm comments. No, the little round is not a .505 Gibbs, but when sizing up your options, take a hard look at Hornady's nifty new 135 grain projectile. My glock will be fed with the 'Critical Duty' pills. For you .40 lovers out there, Hornady presents a 175 grain bullet that also delivers splendidly as touted. These rounds are game changers in every sense of the word.

Still like the older hog-legs in .357 magnum and of course the beloved .44 Dirty Harry pistol, but that .45 auto (if cleaned and maintained correctly) will always be my safety blanket on a dark night when that horrid sound of breaking glass invades my circle.

Multiple .22s to the head and it all over.

Do you really want to get that close? Zombie's can be pretty quick at close range. :p

"pop" ooh! "pop" sniff sniff "pop" BRAINS!!!!!! "pop" crunch ...............................................................

C'mon Gravelface! Capacity is everything... spray and prey brotha!

This is how I roll.

It may look bulky, but I EDC it IWB in skin-tight bluejeans and underarmor shirt. It's almost invisible.

Now all I need is one of those pistol bayonets... :p

My EDC... for those times when you absolutely MUST kill a charging rhino, and the school bus full of children behind it

YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL WHO THE LEADER IS........BY THE NUMBER OF ARROWS IN HIS/HER BACK............and as far as guns I love my 1911s which is all I will shoot but I'm glad that not everyone else likes them-that would be kinda boring. We have to appreciate things for what they are and that includes peoples opinions and tastes. I will take a 9mm +p+ or a .45 ACP because they are the 2 most proven rounds that exist as far as defensive handgun rounds. I love my 10mm as well and I would prefer to have one in a situation where the bad guy has some sort of armor on.

Over built? Thick wedges of steel? LOL! They probably aren't old enough to remember what custom knives were like in the 1960s and '70s. 1/4" was the norm. Many makers use 5/16" and 3/8" stock.

This was the Elmer Keith designed knife. Talk about a sharpened pry bar.......:D

honestly, a revolver is sufficient for virtually every self defense situation that you will encounter in your life

Here in the UK, a Battle Mistress is more than sufficient for virtually every self defense situation you will encounter in your life. :p

Busse makes thick. Busse Makes Thin, Busse makes in between.

The really great part? The Whole family! Busse, Swamprat, Scrapyard. Talk about options, designs, and steels!

I own a KZII, and a B11 (and CABS, MUCK, SarQ, BAD). Even though I have two excellent big choppers, I have been sick about the 1311 from scrapyard. 13.5 inches of Sr101 for under 2 bills. I am starting to shake over here trying to resist it! I have also had Ash1CG, a different BAD, SS, GW, FBMLE that have had to move on.

I have "enough" Busse, but I still have to fight off most offerings (usually accompanied by shaking, chills, salivating etc).

Lots of great makers (custom and production) out there. For some reason, I have not bought anything other than Busse and folders for years. Mostly, because I have the money invested in them, and have not had any disposable income for a while (other than for traditional slip joint folders, most in "inferior non Infi crap" 1095 that I love).

One of the real problems with Busse hate are the newbies (I should maybe phrase this "causes", and I am pretty new to the trough my self, only in the past 5 years or so getting my first taste). They find out about Busse, place and order, then run around yelling (read typing loud) in every thread they can find "if its not Busse, its crap"

People who would other wise not care two whits about Busse, are shouted at, and told anything they own is crap if it is not Busse.

This is especially poor form, when considering the most excellent attitude of any one working in the Busse Family. The Boss goes out of his way to be courteous to everyone. No name calling, no denigrating. Just Pure Class from everyone in the Busse Family (and I really mean that!)

There is no need for it, and it is, quite frequently some one who has never held one yet, or if they have one, has not used it beyond cutting some cucumbers for a salad, and whacked a branch or two with it.

Busse, Scrapyard and Swamprat are at the top of their industry, not because they talk bad about others, but because they simply produce! They make Stellar knives, in so many different options. They are never content to rest on their laurels. I feel, that if the Boss were not incessantly bugged by us to re release models, he would never make the same model twice. He is just that creative (this goes for the "family" knives as well).

When I am in other's threads, I still recommend Busse, Scrapyard, and Swamprat. I try to do so courteously, and without chest thumping. I want others to come into the trough (or swamp, or yard), and feel welcome. No "Us vs. Them"

Are we ALL that bad!??? :o

I have actually thought that myself sometimes, and I AM a new kid.

No. But it often goes in waves. Busse's are just objects. They appeal to all types. Mostly Great People, but an occasional turkey. A lot of times, Busse is the first real top quality, hard use knife people buy. If you can figure out how and where to buy. Honestly, my first Busse purchase (or trade really) was delayed by YEARS because of their marketing/sales model. I just could not hold one, or really, find one to buy. The thought of buying a knife "peer to peer" on blade forums was kind of crazy to me! I started with a FBMLE and a Custom, in trade for an AR15 pistol, so I really jumped in. This was right at the very beginning of the feed back system. So my wife thought I was insane (I tried to explain I was trading with an established reliable custom maker).

The marketing/sales method does keep some away. The inability to go into a brick and mortar store (for most), and hold one is another issue. Now, it is just part of the "charm"

Ordering in a ganza is just plain stinking fun! Entertainment in and of it's self, even if you are not going to buy anything. It can be off putting to people to figure out. (this is why the Old Guard Hogs will often help out with secret PM's explaining things).

In the words of the Great Emancipator Abraham Lincoln: "Infi? Sr101? Sr77? D2? 1095? Relax, and enjoy, they're just knives people!"
