Busse & Jeeps

My old Comanche has seen better days so I bought myself this:

I drove it over to my buddies house today to try it out offroad. We ended up taking out his two Jeeps first and then another friend of ours showed up with his Jeep. I can't believe what that big gold rubicon would go through:eek:

Here are a couple pics of the three:

These are end of the day pictures after beating the crud out of these three jeeps. The trails consist of heavy rock crawling, hill climbs, deep mud, bulldozing trees and a long ride down a pretty crazy river:D

I didn't take my camera onto the trails and into the river (It was that crazy)

A couple friends:

Ole' Gold just walking over the rock formation in it's back yard. (Don't be fooled, that is not easy to do) The cherokee got beat up good doing it and the purple wrangler couldn't make it:

And finally for my friend Peter a picture of something at my neighbors I spotted out of the barn for the first time in a while:

So, all of this Jeep AMAZEMENT and I have decided to turn my Comanche into a Crawler:D

Rubicons come with Dana 44's front and rear with lockers... good for getting the power to the ground. Add a nice lift and big tires and ya good to go ;-)

Yeah, they are nice stock:thumbup:

The Rubicon does not have any of the stock drivetrain though. The purple wrangler has front and rear lockers, Detroit in the rear and the cherokee has a home made rear 'lincoln locker':D

The "Rubicon" is simply a monster:eek::eek::)

Great Pics Richstag!!!
The Unimog is on my short list.
Post pics when you finish your crawler build.:D:thumbup:

Thanks and I will do. I am very excited. The H3T is Very capable, my friend tells me more so than a stock Rubicon, but well you know I just spent all that money and it would be more fun to beat the old comanche and keep the H3T for the easier trails and snow to and from work.:)

Nice pic's Richstag .... you and your friends have some great off roaders there .... and some great countryside to use them in too. They look halfway between those "monster truck" set ups and a normal height for an off roader .... so I guess they are the ultimate in ground clearance and stability as they are right now? Do you and your friends go to off road trials ? We have that sort of thing here but the equipment is different. In terms of getting from a) to b) quickly the custom off roaders seem to be more into speed and acceleration than obstacle crawling. Near where I live they make Bowler Custom Landrovers, used in the Paris-Dakkar type races these off-roaders accelerate faster than most roadgoing muscle cars ....

Every now and then I drive down there and ask for a "test drive":D .... they have their own track .... and sell part exchanged models where guys on the race circuit have moved on to the latest version of Tomcat or whatever .... or crashed one and it needed re-building and got sold ....

It is the most exhilerating form of driving I have ever done .... and I have done a fair bit of off roading. They would'nt go anywhere near the obstacles those rock crawler Jeeps could do .... but they sure could drive "round the obstacles" quite quickly .....:D

However when you watch the Off Road Races like the big Paris-Dakkar quite often the small privateer concerns who enter their own vehicles like a Bowler Wildcat .... they use an Unimog as their support vehicle .... usually an Army Spec Ex S/F's one which have higher gear ratio's than the Agricultural Work Horse one's ..... and can go along pretty fast .... and for me that says it all ..... because the support vehicles simply cannot break down if they are to be of any use.

I like the old red model you have there .... I bet not many of those are in the States ..... but with the hydraulic power take off front and rear those Unimogs can do some amazing "all round" work on a farm.

Good luck with your new "rock crawler" project and your Hummer will earn big points with the Busse Crew

If flying the flag for Britian tho' ..... here is a good clip to tell you about the Bowler .....

Hey Rich that's a nice rig, But if you need a sunroof installed i believe there is a guy around here thats pretty experienced at it.
He'd probably give you a discount being your a member here too. :D:D

Peter - That Wildcat looks AWESOME! You hit the nail on the head. On my property we have trails and he also has trails on his property. They are all WOODS trails that you simply can't get through certain areas without these built jeeps and even with these jeeps sometimes you just have to go around or turn back. Next time out I am going to shoot some video and I will post it up. The Gold Jeep with 7.17's and a low option of 6:1 in the transfer case is bit of an Extreme crawler. It allows the operator to do nothing but steer, up or down hills:)

Each one of the jeeps has its strengths and will do certain types of trails better. The Gold one is nicknamed the "Slinky" because of the fluid insane flexing it is capable of. Awesome for obstacles like you mentioned but it sure would not keep of with that Wildcat:D

There are 'real' trails nearby at a place called Rausch Creek http://www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.org/ that is fun but our PA backwoods trails are quite ridiculous.

Basically the short answer before I go off on a tangent is yes, these jeeps have been built for the local trails:thumbup:

I bought the H3T because of an unbelievable deal:eek: But, with a 4:1 transfer low option, 5.3 V8, lockers front and rear, long arm suspension and a factory offroad package it has potential. It would probably be more fun on trails like the Wildcat runs than our backwoods torture tests though:)

As always, thanks for your well thought out response Peter!

Oge14 and 762 - Stay away from my shiny new truck!!! It already has a moonroof and it doesn't need another one!!:D

Nice truck Horndog! I read that Jeep is now owned by International. I can't wait to see what International comes up with :)
