Hey guys, mind if I share a little story and blow some steam from my system?

Have you ever wanted something so badly, that it consumes your thoughts all day and you know the only way to make it stop is to give in a buy it? That was basically the way I felt about mid-sized Busse knives. I figured I would pick one up on the ‘buy once, cry once’ principle as an all-round field/survival knife. I am trying to get some gear together to do some deer hunting and build up some survival skills and enjoy the outdoors.

So I scrimped and saved every penny I could for months under the ever watchful eye of the wife… All the time, slipping in little hints to the wife that I was planning to do something worthwhile with money and buy something I felt was I really needed, while also mentioning I needed to pick up a knife. Once the amount of money I was going to spend on this knife clicked in her mind, I was in one hell of an interrogation and if this knife could do anything short of breath fire and build houses I was in trouble!!!

Eventually I got the go ahead to spend the money (we all know roughly what Busse knives cost) and I purchased a beautiful SJTAC from a forum member here. Transaction went smooth, shipped fast and great communication from the member. ( I really appreciate his effort.) Once purchased, the wife was sure to remind me of the gaping hole in the bank account and began hounding me to see this knife when it arrived.

1, 2, 3 weeks pass… Shipping must be slow. No new updates with tracking information? Hmmmm…. 4 and 5 weeks pass, starting to get VERY nervous. Calling Australian customs and Aus post, they have received nothing from the USA. 6, 7 and finally 8 weeks pass and I am shattered. I have had 5 packages bought, shipped and received within this timeframe from the USA so I know it isn’t just slow post times.

So basically, some US postal worker is enjoying my knife for Christmas. I’m shattered, no knife, my wife will never let me save for anything like this ever again and I am seriously out of pocket. I am pretty disappointed in the human race at the moment… stealing is low.

Any of you guys ever had this kind of trouble with the postal service?

Disclaimer: The seller has been nothing but honest and forth-right, no hard feelings there. I have posted this elsewhere but thought it relevant that some fellow Hogs would appreciate, seeing as it was a Busse knife.

Sorry for the troubles, stay with it, it might just arrive I had issues with the P.O. before and it was just very delayed, remember we just had our Thanksgiving and things were very slow at the PO around here.

*Wait a few more weeks to see if it arrives then if not send me a PM

Hey Mate,

What type of shipping ?? USPS First Class, Priority etc ? Do you have a tracking or customs declaration number ??

Don't give up just yet, crappy time of year for stuff coming in from the US..!!! As you can guess I have a bit of experience getting Busses from the US... ;)

Max: Thanks for caring mate, one of the reasons I craved a Busse so bad is to officially join this awesome community. :)

Andy: It was first class. I am not giving up quite yet, I am going through every avenue possible to recover it.

I am very patient guys and don't mind when it arrives, so long as it eventually does!

That sucks. But hopefully it's just sitting around suffering the effects of MSG from all the Turkey and will arrive soon. Sorry this is happening

Just so ya know, mate, you don't need to actually own a busse to be a part of this family.

That is why I will never ship internationally again. Seems they somehow lose stuff every now and then.

Years back, I sold some rare car parts on fleabay for 300-400 bucks. The guy was in Canada, but it was remote (Newfoundland or Nova Scotia, can't remember) and he wanted me to use the cheapest shipping possible so it would save him money. Well, the cheapest way means no tracking. Air Parcel post gave me a 28-42 day window and after 60 days he forced a refund with paypal. I was out the money and the parts and I vowed never to sell outside the US or without a trackign number again.

USPS is extremely inconsistent too, so maybe you might luck out. The last 5 knives I bought came from either the midwest or east coast and all came 2 days after being shipped Priority.
However, Monday I had a guy ship me a Waki Priority from San Diego (a mere 4 hours from me) and it probably won't get here until tomorrow because for whatever reason they held it a full day at several cities along the way. 5 days from San Diego to Bakersfield when it took 2 days from Illinois, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and New York? The very definition of inconsistency.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, that's a real shame. Did the seller refund your money? Last i checked, shipping accountability lies with the seller.

I know a girl who was a letter carrier. She said they can totally tell what's in the packages. She actually got fired, got a felony and I think did a little time for mail theft, I think she said she was stealing gift cards :(

That Sucks...That is why I started shipping Express Mail, just sent one to South Africa today insured for $39.00
China is $58
The packages are there in 3 - 6 days with complete tracking all the way.

I hope yours shows up, stranger things have happened :)

Fair call, but this happens whether it's national or international. I once paid the higher amount for registered, express post with signature required etc. The package was worth more than I am willing to disclose here... Anyway, Auspost lied about it being delivered and the postman signed a fake signature. I proved it as we had security cameras showing no one actually delivered it. Tracking said it was delivered. After a week of complete panic and stress and nearly getting the police and a private investigator hired and threatening the company, it randomly turned up again. Obviously someone decided they wanted the package and was waiting to see if they could get away with it.

Please don't stop shipping internationally, just insure the packages..

I'm sorry to hear of your woes and hope it ends up arriving :)

Tell me it was insured. Why would anyone ship an expensive knife and not insure it.

Did you pay with PP ? You're covered if you did, but don't let the time run out.

Just letting you know that all packages sent out by USPS abroad have by default some sort of insurance. I dont remember the amount, but the seller should always include the equivalent insurance as the cots of the item. The last time I sent out an item, the default insurance was like $100, so you should be at least eligible to get that amount back if your package is truly lost. Contact the seller and ask them about how much insurance was covered by the package.

This ^^^ (Express Mail Intl.) is the best way to go for the money via USPS. Insured, trackable, stress free.

So, does this mean I should file a paypal dispute against the seller? I don't believe the seller did anything wrong as he clearly did send the item. Would paypal pay for it? I guess I don't like the idea of taking back his money when he needed it.

Also, for everyone recommending express mail through USPS I appreciate it, but regardless of the mailing method there are still crooks in the system. My example above was an express national post issue, so things can go wrong completely outside our control above and beyond what we spend.

Thanks for all your concern and care guys, you/we have a tight community here!!!

It sucks your knife didnt arrive, but you cant punish the shipper if you believe he did infact ship it. It might not be stolen, it might just be lost or delayed. Keep calling everyone you can and explain your situation. Hopefully someone in the system can help you out further.
