Busse Security Blanket...

A knife for protection inside a house is laughable,at best.I know you work for Busse and this is the Busse forum and Busse knives can do everything from cutting a piece of paper to stopping a meteor from hitting earth..But get real..Get a gun..A knife, even a Busse wont do a damn thing for self protection.

The key concept here is self protection. If you aren't so concerned about your precious life, there isn't much your attacker can do to keep you from taking him to hell with you if you have an adequate knife.

It's Good to have a knife. ;)

ok, I'm curious...so I have a question: When you teach youth and novices to shoot and they "rarely miss a stationary target" do you account for pellets that have missed the target? When the police qualify for shotguns do they make sure the spread (all 8 or 9 pellets) hit the target? Or is it "a hit=a hit"?

To be correct when it comes to youth and novices I do not count pellets as we are using bird shot and with youth especially we are not shooting at silhouette targets. I mentioned it more as a comparison of weapon manipulation than an argument for or against patterning. Yes LEO all 8-9 pellets have to hit the preferred area of the target.

I went to the range today real quick with some older Federal 2 3/4" Tactical shells with their flight control wad using 8 OO pellets http://le.atk.com/general/federalproducts/shotshell/tacticalprcsnbcksht.aspx. I think viva la said that various loads will pattern different and that is exactly true. Shotgun was Rem 870 with 18" IC choke barrel. 24 degrees, wind 0-3mph, sun overhead. First pick is lasered 10 yards, 2nd pic is lasered 20 yards (pic isn't great but one of those is a double hit), 3rd pic is lasered 30 yards. I find it interesting that the third shot strings vertically. All 8 pellets well within body out to 30 yards witch is impossible to shoot inside my house. Heck I can't shoot 20 yards inside my house. I must input that these shells are designed to stay together for self defense reasons and "birdshot" is made to spread out to have more chances at well....flying birds. It does show what I mean when I say I have to Aim with My shotgun or I will miss. It is a fine defensive weapon.

I also wanted to do another 10 yard target but ran out of clean targets. I think that was kind of an anomoly. I think it should spread out to at least fist size at that distance.

Yes Sir, the proof is on the paper when you talk about SGs. Lov'em myself!!! Oh and the other day I said that #4 was the size of a .22 cal bullet, I was wrong it's a .24 bullet.

Size--------------------------------------Nominal diameter------------------------ Pellets/oz
0000 ("quadruple-aught")------------.38" (9.7 mm)--------------------------------5
000 ("triple-aught")-------------------.36" (9.1 mm)--------------------------------6
00 ("double-aught")-------------------.33" (8.4 mm)--------------------------------8
0 ("aught")-----------------------------.32" (8.1 mm)--------------------------------9
1----------------------------------------.30" (7.6 mm)--------------------------------10
2----------------------------------------.27" (6.9 mm)--------------------------------15
3----------------------------------------.25" (6.4 mm)--------------------------------18
4----------------------------------------.24" (6 mm)-----------------------------------21

I just put a new short barrel on my Remington 870 and loaded it with #1 buckshot myself. My Winchester is loaded with Centurion "buck & ball" and slugs, ten round magazine extension and pressure switch light as well.;)

I like a lot of ideas in this thread and cannot think of much of anything that hasn't been said. I also disagree with some ideas.

I think getting a dog is a great idea. The cost of training it is well worth what is at stake.

Along the lines of training, I think that self defense training is a must. Also, I think a gun that she is both comfortable using and trained to use is a must. I disagree that having guns (or any weapons for that matter) laying about is a good idea; an attacker could easily use the weapon against their target. A gun and a knife should be carried at all times if possible, and kept hidden, yet accessible when it is not an option to be wearing them.

As far as what Busse is best, I think it is the one that your sister is most comfortable with using and is trained with. If possible, a D-Guard or lanyard should be used at all times to insure that she is the one with the weapon. A Boss Jack or Active Duty could be perfect for smaller hands. I keep my .22" ASH nearby at all times at my apartment. Even though I don't currently live in a rough neighborhood, I have in the past, so I am used to keep weapons around. That leads me to my next point, securing the apartment.

Long story short, I once had a (female) stalker who would break into my apartment and didn't understand the word NO.
I spoke to my landlord/manager and had them install high security locks to my back door, which leads right into my bedroom. It wouldn't hurt to talk to the landlord to see if this could be done at her place.

Mace is another great option as a last resort.

I have experience dealing with a sexual predator who abused a woman that I love (ex fiancé) when she was just a child. I won't tell the full story here, because this thread isn't about me, but I would be happy to tell it to you privately, Lexi, and offer any advice I can (the man was her father and yes I did meet him. He's alive, but I doubt he ever talked to his daughter again.) The difference in this situation, and the reason why I bring it up is that your sister has the chance to defend herself, should this twisted sonofab**** tries something. I truly hope that he won't, but it's best to stay vigilant. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I wish you and your sister the best from the bottom of my heart. I hope that the predator mentioned gets what he deserves and that he does not try to attack anyone again. Sexual predators are the scum of the earth and it makes me sick to know that they exist.

You could always blow this up and put it on the front door.

The t-shirts I made kept my daughter idiot free for a long time :)

Thank you David, that is so very thoughtful.:D What was the T-shirt like? That photo on it?

I wish, never actually made them, but I wanted to :)
I made it a point to meet all here fiends I could, that seamed to work pretty good..

The most important thing to remember aside from training is SITUATIONAL AWARENESS! I can't believe the number of girls I've seen blindly chatting away on their cell phones when waiting for a bus and the number of creepy guys that were paying attention to them, unbeknown to them. Thankfully, nothing ever came of it. She should make sure she's aware of places around the house and car where people can be waiting without being seen. House key ready to get in the house, etc. It's just good to naturally have your head on a swivel in all walks of life :)

My daughters are teenagers, I just tell there male friends that I have a shotgun a shovel and a short temper. Works pretty good.

Large print poster of that picture of David Brown with the words "You've Been Warned" on the top would be awesome. Anyone with an in at Kinkos want to take the lead on that one?

Heck I might have to make a sheet size copy of that to tell the young boys...."You think I'm scary?" "Check out my daughters' Uncle Dave." HaHa that would be hilarious!
