Bussekin & Friends + Epic Fail

I know this thread is old... but oh my hell! I nearly wet myself when I saw the OP's collection that took 1 year to acquire. First time I've lol'd at a BF thread...

Failed again as expected and bought a few more despite my last promise not to. Last Bussekin came in (Pumpkin BWM & NMSFNO, SYKCO & War Dog) so here are all the Bussekin. I am waiting for one more non-Bussekin then I will update the overall collection pics.

And I got some hardened criminals that I am bringing to Blade to keep the Hogs at bay: I ordered a War Dog and these two came along with it.

:O Holy crap... folks that put on Blade are probably giddy with expectation for your arrival....
With a collection like that -- you better have some guard dogs (check)

Are you married?... i'm not gay... but if you're looking for someone... I'm just saying.

Some groupings just for fun.

Sets of 3 - LE Micarta (or similar), Pumpkin, Black G10 or Paper Micarta.

I still need a Pumkin SFNO and a Pumpkin ASH-1.

Handmade & Semi-handmade

Preview of some new ones that will be included in the collection pics. I don't have many customs but am going to move in that direction so I got 3 new Micarta Skookums, 2 Koster Bushmasters and a WSS, Ray Laconico 5" Bushcrafter and a Fiddleback Ladyfinger.

Hey Ross, you probably don't recognize your Browning Crowell / Barker - it was re-handled and is the Orange handled one in the second to last pic above.

Last one came in today so here they are all together (except for 2 that are out for re-handle). I hope this is a useful size reference. I will do a better job on the pictures and the scale another time. This was a rush job.

If anybody wants pics of specific knife combinations just let me know and I will be happy to take them.

I will be at Blade and look forward to meeting you.

The pups are German Shepherds, brother and sister, 8 weeks old. Sire (dad) is a black & red saddleback, 110 lbs & Dam (mom) is a black & tan saddleback, 85 lbs. This is the Sire:

My modest Blade scores, but I got everything that I wanted:

Major thanks to dericdesmond who swapped his Jungle Green RMD proto for my Moss Green and for letting me have the ASH Whacker 9.5 Proto.

DSC_5555_resize.jpg

DSC_5566_resize.jpg

ASH Whacker Prototype 9.5 (1 of 9)
ASH Whacker Prototype 7.5 (1 of 9)
Ratmandu Jungle Green Black Paper Micarta (longer prototype) (1 of 13)

The shorter RMD was not a Blade score, it is a first run original with the rounded spine, Jungle Green and Black G10. Pictured only to illustrate the difference of the longer proto.

And my collection QA and Security Dept approves:

Foremost, I would like to thank the Busse Knife Group and all its representatives for their hospitality, their generosity and for making it possible to meet new friends. Also, thanks to all of you who attended for the laughs and the good times. It truly was a great time and like I said in another thread, in future I will attend for the people more than the knives.

For those of you who could not attend, make your best effort to do so when you can. It truly is a great experience, far beyond just the knives.

Other than meeting all the great Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard employees, all the Hogs, Dogs and Rats, I met some of the greats of this industry. If you have not met Jerry, he is a hoot, a really funny guy with a warm personality.

Eric and Sal Glesser are as nice as they come. Sal probably spoke to me for at least 30+ mins (I kept deferring to others who arrived at the booth so as not to hog his time but he just kept me in conversation). When I told him how enamored I am with the new Bushcrafter, he introduced me to the designer of it, Chris Claycombe, and I went and spoke with him about 15 yards from the Spyderco booth. Sal left the booth and came and stood with us and carried on with the conversation probably for another 30+ mins.

Ethan Becker was also pure class. We spoke at length and he is just a super nice gentleman.

I also met Chris Reeve and spoke with him. I grew up in the same city as Chris and had a nice although brief conversation with him as there were many people at his booth.

The Benchmade 171 is my favorite chopper and I was very happy to meet and talk to its designer, Warren Osborne.

I met many other incredible people as well but I found it very telling that the highest achievers (in the production knife industry) were also the most humble, down to earth and nicest people around.

Have you used the benchmade bladesports chopper? How do you like it?

Yes, I did a chop-off with it and most of my other choppers recently. My wife also participated and so did a teenage kid, a friend of my kids. It is easily my favorite, for heavy duty chopping at least (not machete type chopping like brush clearing where reach is required). My wife also chose it as did the kid.

Ever since I found out about it after I participated in a chop-off, I have had my eye on it. What is the handle/grip material like? Does the handle angle help with chopping? Which Busse knife would you equate the weight to?

Doooood, I would rent a booth at Blade 2011, you would cause people to go crossed--eyed and rub sh!t in their hair and lick windows!!!!and one of them would be me!!!

I really did laugh out loud reading that. I will be at Blade .... so look forward to meeting you.

I had forgotten about this hilarious post when at Blade. So when you had us in stitches on Saturday night I did not realize it was you.

Now I am sitting here itching like a b*tch and scratching like a dog from this poison ivy sh** that wakes me up every few hours and is really starting to make me lose my sense of humor after 2 weeks of very little sleep.

So pathetically I am reading BF posts at 4 in the morning and then it hit me, after your hilarity on Sat, it had to be you that posted that and that we did indeed meet.

I was sitting next to Pokey when you told the story about the "Chester" walking into your office. As if I was not laughing enough already, Pokey was on form and immediately whispered to me, "Chester the molester".

Thanks for the laughs! I hope you see you again next year.
