Busses and Whisky

I have seen blantons locally between $50 and $100. Never seen it below that. It has gotten almost impossible to find in Colorado.

Only $250 for a bottle. It’s not far so maybe I’ll go take a tour.

Was also told to try Bulleit like the one Stallone drank in one of his movies

I don't know what kind Stallone drank in that movie, but Bulleit makes a really good $20 rye.

Bulleit is an excellent bourbon. One of my go-to bourbons.

So clue a noob in ~ Blantons is made by Buffalo Trace, their super select pour ~ If I did a blind side by side of $50 and $250 Bourbon, would I be able to pick out 1 from the other? ~
I have a friend who's into crazy bourbons' but I can barely keep them down. This is why I was so hesitant doing the Scotch thing but it's worlds apart for me.

I think I could pick Buffalo Trace out of anything. That is my all-time favorite bourbon. It’s like nectar of the gods. I can sip it or get a little crazy with it, and never get a hangover. Had a bad cold on a work trip. At the end of the week, shared a bottle with a couple of friends. I think I ended up drinking half of it myself. Woke up the next morning feeling much better. One of my co-workers said I looked and sounded better than I had all week.

I’ve had others from the same distillery
(More and less expensive). Nothing as good as the Buffalo. But that’s me. YMMV.

I’ve tried that, too. It may actually be better than their bourbon.

Can never go wrong with Buffalo trace, but There are much better bourbons for not much more. Eagle rare 10 is one. Four roses single batch, and Henry McKenna 10 year single cask is another. In fact I would go on to say that McKenna single barrel was the best deal in a bourbon, but the secret is out now and prices have gone up. Eagle rare 10 is still remaining cheap relatively. I will always take an age statement bourbon over a non age statement.

Japanese whiskies are also amazingly tasty. I have had Yamazaki 12, 14, 18, Hibiki 12, 17, Nikka from the barrel, 17 and coffee malt. As well as some others.

I’ve had the 4 Roses single batch, and prefer Buffalo Trace. I’ve also had Eagle Rare, and you’re not the first one to tell me how it is better than Buffalo Trace. In fact, everyone tells me that. And that’s where YMMV comes in. I like 4 Roses single batch, but not a favorite. But I really dislike Eagle Rare. It doesn’t really light me up in taste, and even a little bit leaves me with a headache the next day. Don’t know what it is. Some bourbons do that to me, some don’t. And it isn’t traceable to price.

Come to think of it, though, I don’t think I’ve ever had a headache after a single or blended scotch. Unless it’s a VERY cheap scotch. Like Cutty Sark or something. I think that is what it’s called. Haven’t had it since college, over 30 years ago.

Had a death in the family.... :( Added a few drops of the skies tears in the last moments together.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel~ I shall be cracking open my first go at Ardbeg10 this evening

Cutty Sark should be illegal. Japanese whiskies are great, but are becoming increasingly harder to find. There was a lottery today for a chance to buy some.

I did pick up two bottles of the Old Ezra 7yr old barrel strength and the last bottle of Balvenie Sweet Toast of American Oak. Also tried a local American whisky that I thought was fantastic. Going to the distillery in the next few weeks to get a bottle of their cask strength juice.

Was also talking to a Buffalo Trace rep who was telling my friend and I all about their experimental warehouse X. And got a free hot dog! All in all, a good day.

As long as we're talking bourbon, I can't say enough good things about AH Hirsch 16 yr. I thought it was pricey back in 2008 at $200 or so a bottle...looking at the prices now, I wish I'd bought a few cases at that price.

I can see where this and the Laphroaig10 are certainly cousins. This makes me wonder what it would be like to take a boat ride along the southeastern coast of Islay when Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin distilleries were all drying malted barley at the same time, that has to be an interesting aroma in the air.
I'll be sure to bring this one in before bedtime just in case some local knife maker be making rounds after dark ~ Or, maybe I should purposely leave it out next to an empty shipping box in case the Scotch Fairy is a real thing????

BEtween those two it is a matter of taste. I prefer Ardbeg because it is ashier, but I still like laphroaig.

currently I am really liking this Japanese whisky

A quick look around tells me that's 1 of 3600 total bottles surpassing the cost of a Infi SYKCO offering~ Reading up on it, certainly piques the curiosity. I sense you could hold your own personal tasting event HAHA! Of course you must toss out the reviews by the Scotch snob purists, but who wouldn't want to try it - you know even the stiffest shirt would want a go at it even though they wouldn't admit it. I've watched a lot of vids on YT by those guys on Whiskey Vault and they speak very highly of the Japanese Whiskies. My biggest takeaway with those guys is, Japanese drams are highly sought, expensive and very limited runs and very good.

Since you're going shopping anyway....Find me a Pappy VanWinkle 15yr....Puh Puh Puh Leeeezzzz:cool::cool::cool::thumbsup:

This pic was up on TMZ, story said it was $1200 bottle of Pappy he chugged with their win the other night. I couldn't find that exact label anywhere so no idea what it is.

I found the ones I wanna try:

Elijah Craig
Angel’s Envy
Belle Meade

Then I’m gonna do the Buffalo Trace tour and try the different ones out

Having had more Japanese whisky than most snobs I feel that this one is one of the best I have had. Oh and by the way, the reddit reviewers are pretty ignorant for the most part. They are more about branding than performance.

Have you tried the Belle Meade sherry cask?
