Busses and Whisky

I found the ones I wanna try:

Elijah Craig
Angel’s Envy
Have you tried the Belle Meade sherry cask?
Nope, but that’s the one I found that I want to try. I drink more wine and mead currently than anything. So figure it will be a good way to ease into it since it will have a flavor profile I’m used to

Then I’m gonna do the Buffalo Trace tour and try the different ones out
Of the 3 listed I've tried Elijah Craig and it won't last long very easy drinking:thumbsup::cool:

This pic was up on TMZ, story said it was $1200 bottle of Pappy he chugged with their win the other night. I couldn't find that exact label anywhere so no idea what it is.

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye. Yep, I don't have that one.

If you can find the Elijah Craig 12 year barrel proof, grab it. It is one of the best bourbons at any price. I have gotten all my bourbon buddies hooked on it and they all have bottles.

Yeah that's good stuff, just hard to find. Hey have you tried basil Hayden's dark rye?

Yes, I have. Very tasty. However, I think it is infused with port. It is not pure whiskey.
Oh I thought it was just finished in Port barrels I'll have to check.

No, you are right. Blended with port. Now I really want to try it

This one must not be very good, because it's been like seven years and I still haven't finished the bottle.

Yikes! This was a budget-buster when I bought it in 2012 for $125. Wine Searcher says this goes for over $800 a bottle now. You'd think it was Van Winkle or something.

Did someone say Van Winkle? Yep. Got that one.

I've had the pappy bourbons and while they are very good, there are other bourbons that I like as much and some even better. I'm just not inclined to pay the extreme prices needed to get those bottles.

That rye, however, I haven't tried. I definitely need to fix that situation soon.

Agreed. There are much better bourbons.

The Van Winkle rye is good, but not $1200 a bottle good. It was probably around $50 when I got mine, and worth it. At the time, Pappy Van Winkle was really hard to find, but for some reason, no one seemed to have noticed the rye yet. There were probably a half a dozen bottles on the shelf at my local Spec's. Then the hipster millennials discovered rye, and for a long time I couldn't even find Sazerac (which I used to buy by the case). That's probably why I mostly switched to Scotch.

I can see where this and the Laphroaig10 are certainly cousins. This makes me wonder what it would be like to take a boat ride along the southeastern coast of Islay when Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin distilleries were all drying malted barley at the same time, that has to be an interesting aroma in the air.View attachment 1144980

Interesting take on the Ardbeg 10, to me it has always tasted very much like a slightly peatier Lagavulin 16. If you like the Laphroaig 10 though (and it used to be my favorite over the 15, 30 or 1/4 cask), I recommend trying the Ardbeg Corryvreckan. It’s delicious.

You like Laphroaig 10 over 30 o_O:eek::)? The 10 is fantastic, but 30 year old is the nectar of the gods !!! At any rate, I can't fault your taste in Scotch :D

I've got those~ the Ardbeg10, Laphroaig10, Lagavulin16 and Corryvrechan, in fact, just had a tumbler of the vreckan neat, it's growing on me :D

I used to get Laphroaig 18 and much preferred it over the 10, but they quit making it a few years ago. It's a damn shame; that was really good stuff. And it was a few bucks cheaper than Lagavulin 16.

I was drinking 10 and 18 (along with Cuan) with a mate down the coast a couple of nights ago. All very good. 18 is a lot smoother than the 10.

Laphroaig 18 is excellent. You can still find it if you look around but not easily. That and the cask strength 10 are the best.
