Buyers/Sellers: USPS delays

We are over worked, under staffed, and constantly bombarded by the public that has no idea what we go through each day. Some of our routes are loooong.... walking up to 7-8 miles a day with no air conditioning to retreat to when it’s 99 degrees and 80% humidity.
The privilege of having something hand delivered almost anywhere in the country for a very reasonable cost in typically a few days is HIGHLY under appreciated. It always amazes me that I can get a knife into a buyers hands in 2-3 days for less than $10.

UPS/FedEx would be twice as much, and there's addresses they won't even deliver to....with USPS I know that if they have a mailing address I can ship it to them with no hassle.

I always bring them to the P.O. and get a receipt so they can't deny receiving it, but my P.O. is only 10min away so it's not a big deal.
I usually do, too, but I had one coming that I had to sign for so I thought that I would try it...it is now tracking and says it will be in HI Monday!

My awesome Postman for as long as I can remember got sick a couple of months ago, don't think it's covid related, and he has been out ever since :(

I ordered some guitar picks from Musician's Friend about a week and a half ago and they just came today. I even called them yesterday and they said USPS probably lost it, and they sent me another package that will be here in a few days.

I love the USPS and will continue to support them, but I have been experiencing some serious delays. While most delays are a week late at most, I do have a customer whose scabbard is now 16 days late. Apparently it has been sitting in seattle for 11 days straight while my customer in tennessee is left sitting on his thumbs.

“So future sales & purchases you might want to consider requesting UPS..“
I wonder if I gave UPS $.55 and letter addressed to Anchorage Alaska would they deliver it? IMHO the USPS is the finest postal service on the planet.
And we have the lowest postage rates of any industrialized nation on the planet.

Ordered 2 things off eBay this past Fri and 2 more things Sat. All were delivered via USPS (not Priority) within 3-4 days.

https://postalnews.com/blog/2015/05/09/postal-myths-2-the-usps-is-not-a-government-agency/

"The USPS often is mischaracterized as a quasi governmental or private entity. It is neither. The USPS is a government agency that was created by Congress to achieve various public purposes. Federal law defines what products and services the Postal Service may offer. Additionally, the USPS’s employees are federal employees who participate in the Civil Service Retirement System, the Federal Employees Retirement System, and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

The Supreme Court has even weighed in on what being “independent” means for the USPS, in an opinion from 2004:

The PRA’s designation of the Postal Service as an “independent establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States,” 39 U. S. C. §201, is not consistent with the idea that the Postal Service is an entity existing outside the Government. Indeed, the designation indicates just the contrary. The PRA gives the Postal Service a high degree of independence from other Government offices, but it remains part of the Government."

Inbound packages shipping priority in July and early August were taking up to three weeks to arrive. Outbound depending on the region delayed a few days at most around one week. Since the Postmaster General was called to Congress and backed off his new policies, my packages have arrived , both inbound and outbound, on time. I am sure Im not alone. The sudden reversal is telling in my opinion. To go from sitting in a hub with no status change for weeks to arriving in warp speed was interesting. Confidence restored (at least for now).

Well if you take out machines and lay people off it's going to slow down the mail. It just takes common sense to see this, although I'll have to say common cense isn't so common these days. That little fat PMG is looking to get into trouble as well tearing up the post offices like he did. Hopefully he gets what is coming to him a few years in the slammer. Hopefully it gets back to normal in the US like it used to be.

I get my mail on a rural route; I've been at this address for 35 years. At least once every two weeks I get someone else's mail in my box.
My mail must make it to other people's boxes as well, because I'm always not getting something I'm expecting.
When I have to sign for something, it gets worse. They leave me a note saying to go down to the post office to sign and get the item.
When I go down there, they don't have it; they say it's out for delivery.
I ask why do they bring it our for delivery, when they know they won't be delivering it?
They say, "she was just doing you a favor".
I say, "what favor?, she knows she won't see me"
I ask for the supervisor, we go round and round, they don't seem to get it.
They have a system where you can put a check in a special orange envelope, and they will leave you some stamps.
I put a check in for $50.00 for a roll of 100 stamps.
I go down to the mailbox, no stamps, but the envelope is gone.
I go down to the post office, and explain. She says, "she ran out of stamps"
I say, fine, then why did she take the check?
She says, "she'll bring you the stamps tomorrow". I say, "why don't you bring me the stamps, and I'll leave you a check tomorrow?"
I ask for the supervisor and explain. They don't get it and want to know why I am hassling the mail carrier.
Good grief. What should we expect with this vote by mail thing?
I'm about to "go postal". No wait, that's them. LOL!

Seems to me the last couple of months have been smooth sailing with all my knives on time, even early a few times, before that had a few shipments 2 weeks long, even had a knife shipped from the UK, which was stuck in Chicago for 3 weeks!!

I've had 3 or 4 packages of knives that I bought off from members here be extremely late in the last month. One took 11 days from St. Louis to Kansas City.

Sitting on one that's now at 10 days from Denver to Kansas City.

The Kansas City Kansas center must be really struggling.

FYI...if you guys have not checked out Pirate Ship, it is simply awesome, it gives you the option of First Class mail, tracked, etc. etc. and the site's functionality is fantastic.

Thanks Trump for taking a reasonably good system like USPS and ruining it just like every other business you have been a part of. I just today received one of the many pieces of Priority mail I have received of late on day #6. It originated in So. Cal and was delivered to me in Central Oregon all west coast geography near major hubs. I see no point in paying for Priority mail in the future as I am beginning to see this as the norm not the exception it use to be. Amen

Are you sure the massive wildfires all over the west didn’t have anything to do with it?

The delays started well before the fires and you probably didn't see it if you watch Trump TV but The new postal master also was caught ripping drop boxes out of the ground in Oregon and elsewhere along with closing USPS processing centers and when ask noted they were scheduled for closing before he came on the job and if you believe that you will probably believe that Trump is a great president which is partially true if you confine the question it to his rich friends.
