buying LE ZT and sell it,,, can this make money?

Let's see. One warning (post moved offline) and one infraction.

Address the question and not other posters.

To answer the question and ignore the statement that I may not agree with (like adults do), yes, you can. If the knife is marketed correctly prior to release and there are a lot of people hungry for it and there are only a very few released. The less it was hyped, the less people are hyped about it, and the greater the number produced erodes whatever profit you may seek. There are people who are rabid fans and will pay insanely stupid prices for a particular sharp wedge of steel they want. There are people, quite a few, actually, who pay close attention and buy as many of these knives as possible and then sell them for a profit. There is really only one main big name company you can do that with and that's zero tolerance. But they've produced a lot of the 0392's in different configurations so people aren't hungry for them as much as say, the 0999. If you'd gotten one of those right off the bat you'd probably be looking at a tidy profit for just a couple minutes worth of work. And there are people who know what you're doing and have a distaste for it but buy it anyway. The same real world ideas go for any kind of product sales.

But no, you won't be looked at kindly if you tell this forum that's what you're doing. If you don't talk about it, no one will say much because one day they may end up buying from you.

And you'll find a LOT of falsely sensitive (or maybe not false) people here who will jump all over anything and everything they can. If you're an aficionado then keep your head down, especially if you have any opinion about knives at all. Seemingly contrary to what this forum is about. It is what it is. Just keep in mind there are a lot of really intolerant people here who expect you to conform to THEIR worldview and if you don't they'll attack you. So regardless of what you think about the color purple you may not be welcomed by a bunch if intolerant people if you say you think it was a color taken by homosexuals. Even if you don't think homosexuality is wrong. Whatever. You said something that got a lot of sensitive people worked up like chickens clucking about a wolf howl in the distance. Probably better to not fight it or you'll be the one targeted for infractions or an outright ban.

Just remember that you're dealing with a bunch of clucking chickens and they don't represent the real world. They represent their own world, as intolerant and judgemental as they are. You wanna talk knives? Deal with it.

And don't forget, there are ALOT of people who add ABSOLUTELY ZERO to this community but dissent and discord. And they're allowed because the owner of the forum finds a lot of it humorous, as I would if I were him. There's a reason why the whole pirate thing is so prevalent here. People take that and run as fast and as far as they can with it. Some mods (the good ones) try their best to corral it in because they're decent people. Others don't. And some mods have been completely blackballed and banned themselves for taking a hard stand against that crap.

And I received an infraction for telling the OP how it is here. The unwritten rules, for lack of a better term. Over the last couple of days I've seen ALOT of personal attacks with really no warnings or discipline from the moderators and now I tell a new guy how it is here and boom, infraction. It is what it is. Stay out of general knife discussion. Got it.

Your skewed perception doesn't equal reality.

As to the OP, flippers will always be around as long as a profit is to be made. Even if it is miniscule.

buying LE ZT and sell it,,, can this make money? what do you guys think?
anyone will buy this from ebay more than 500 bucks?

500 - 50(ebay fee) - 15(paypal fee) - 400 = 35.

works?

edit:
thanks for all your replies.
I wasn't super clear about my question.
Actually I was talking about 0392 purple version. I saw some people bought it and selling it on ebay. But even with price 435, it's been there for very long time and no one buys it. So i was doubting their strategy.
And I highly suspect anyone will spend 500 dollars on zt 0392 knife.

Don't bank on it!

This is specially true of the 0392 series with 7 models produced up to now.

ZT LE used to sell out within a few minutes but the last few except for 0999 (very few produced) not so. The last two variations of the 0392 series have taken a comparatively long time to sell out.

0999 was different because so few were produced.

Like 0999, you have the 0777 & 0888 models even though each had a number of different models but still fewer of each model produced. The 0454 & 0454204P fall near these as well.

In the next category you have the 0600 and 0606 RJ Martin collaboration and near that the 0801 series.

At the bottom, the 0560CBCF and 0095 series.

Here's how I would rank them on the secondary market. Of course, you could further break them down by individual model numbers.

  1. 0777 (0777, 0777-M390, 0777-M390BLK, 0777-M390BW)
  2. 0999
  3. 0888 (0888, 0888M390, 0888MAX)
  4. 0454 (0454, 0454204P)
  5. 0606 (0606CF, 0606BLK)
  6. 0600 (0600, 0600BLK)
  7. 0801 (0801CF, 0801BRWCF, 0801S110V, 0801S110VBLK, 0801BRZ)
  8. 0392 (0392, 0392BWBRZ, 0392BRNGLD, 0392BLKGRN, 0392WC, 0392PURBLKWC, 0392BLUBOWIE, etc.)
  9. 0560CBCF
  10. 0095 (0095, 0095AN)

Folks, please disregard this whole wabble-babble. This is a known stolen valor troll just trying to insult people and get away with it. Pay him no mind.

Edit: Knarfeng, just saw your post. I've said all I felt needed saying, so I have no further comment. Thank you for handling it.

I can prove whatever I need to whoever matters. You don't matter.

Ladies and gents, Drop the trolling and crapping on each other. Last warning.

simultaneous posts. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Now, what were we saying about ZT's?

you forgot to mention 0450cfzdp
that is my favorite zt. No 1.

There are gray areas between ZT LE and ZT Sprint Runs. ZT 0450CFZDP was officially a Sprint Run. Personally, you get more bang for the money in the Sprints. I thought 0801BRZ was an outstanding value with M390 and milled/holed/bronzed titanium for $240!

2016 was a great year for ZT!

Very good summary Ram. I agree, trying to make money flipping ZT LEs seems like a bad idea.

There are plenty of easier and more consistent ways to make money. Had a friend that shopped sales and close-outs on everything from batteries to small electronics at local stores. He'd scour local thrift stores looking for treasures, too. He sell his finds on e-bay. Last I heard he was making $2K or so a month.

Don't bank on it!

Do you speak this way to all the businesses from which you buy goods and services? Or the banks that you use? What about your creditors? Most importantly, is that how you would address him if he were standing before you asking this question?

I would probably reply a little nicer.

To answer your original question OP, some of the ZT LE knives sold for way over what ZT charged, and people made money on the secondary market. The purple 0392 did not sell for much over on the secondary, so people who bought them to flip were stumped. The 0999 however sold for much MORE than the price ZT sold it for, so people made a profit. Just depends on the model and the demand, but regardless, the practice is frowned upon.

It's speculative thus the corresponding risks. Without insider knowledge you're privy as to others' guesses and whims albeit with some known facts.

Sometimes with ZT LE they're limited in the number released to dealers simply because they've chewed off more than they could produce. It's gutsy though on ZT's part because you lay out just a few incredible manufacturing end results. Living on the bleeding edge!

Live and learn.

Flippers, as in pure profiteers, are an adaptive bunch. Brethren to the black market profiteers.

I'm sure they'll always find a suitable market/product. I no longer feel any ill will towards them while hoping they'll profit less and less. :)
