Buying online

I still pick up quite a few knives a gun shows. There's a guy here in KY that has small regional gun shows that usually have a reasonable percentage of knife dealers. I went to one in Lexington on Saturday and managed to come home with an S90V Military, a Salsa and an inlaid Vesuvius from 2003 that were all still NIB.

I can't afford to buy at retailers. They sell the BM 710 for something like $180 whereas I can get it online for $108. Handling it in a store first isn't a $72 service in my book.

I usually buy online as well, If anything I go to the store to see how I like It, then buy online. It does help to be friends with the store owner. :D

In my case it has been a 108 dollar service (or whatever the cost of the knife is). There have been at least 3 occassions where a knife that I really liked the looks of on the interwebz turned out to be something I hated in person. I'm glad I handled it first.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty much forced to buy online.

I'd definitely agree that being able to handle the knife first is preferable, and I'd even be willing to pay a higher "store" price for that privilege, but the Metro Atlanta area has no knife stores, which is pretty amazing for a metro area this big.

We do have some gun/knife shows, but the selection there is often not great. Plus one group that runs shows charges $12 just to get in the door. :grumpy:

We do have the Blade show each year though! :D

While it doesn't solve the problem of knowing if the knife "fits", I've been able to pretty much solve the problem of getting items that have poor f&f, off center blades, etc., by dealing with online sellers who are willing to inspect the item before shipping if you ask them too. Once I started doing that I had way less problems.

Turk-I love Case, I have an older double x, and a small fixed blade that my wife got from the bass pro shop in myrtle beach.

Shoot me an e-mail and I will give you the address of the biggest Case store I have seen In NC, It's In Smithfield.

Smithfield is a bit of a drive for me Turk. I'm near the TN/NC Border near Ashville. I occasionally make my way into Raleigh, but I seldom go as far east as Smithfield.
