Do you guys ever just buy cr@p online that you don't need just to make yourself feel good?

Of course you do. Me too. All of the time. Thats why I have 100+ knives, maybe 50 SAKs and MTs, perhaps 20 Maxpedition products and all kinds of other stuff.

Today, for no particular reason other than that I have a Visa gift card and enjoy feeling good, I ordered from Amazon the following:

- Cold Steel large Espada G10, $99 [the recent Nutnfancy review pushed me over the edge]

- blue Streamlight Stylus Pro pen light, $20 (already have a red one)

- Schrade "tactical" pen with 2x Parker refills $25

- Victorinox Classic SD, black, $12 (I already have probably 15x of these, and I recognize that ordering this one demonstrates severe mental illness)

I don't need any of these suckers. But it feels dang good to order them, and between now and Wednesday I'll be looking forward to their arrival.

What have you guys ordered, or are thinking about ordering, that you don't really need? Fess up.

All the time. Just last night I bought some reflective cord even though I don't have a specific need for it yet.

But do you ever give things away to make yourself feel good?

Gave away three knives.

Swamprat Swamp Warden to a marine friend of mine before he moved away across the country to take care of his ailing mother.

Dirk Pinkerton Variable Broadhead to Charlie Mike for no real reason other than because.

Some folder that I forget with s30v to a college friend of mine. Possibly with an axis lock, though I can't recall.

Back to the original question, I think we all do. Bought a lot of titanium gear.

Titanium carabiner with a bottle opener if you can discern where it is.

I like the carabiner..any info?

Giving unneeded stuff away helps avoid the gluttony that comes from too many "feel-good" purchases; plus it opens up more room in the cabinet and garage for more "feel-good" purchases. Life is a beautiful circle sometimes.

I have a weakness for soft-shell jackets and am always trying to justify another order.

Everything I listed was actually backed through kickstarter. Regarding the carabiner, do a search on kickstarter for bauhaus. There were several different designs. I just happened to like the one I posted the best. The bolt action pen is actually made by Brian Fellhoelter, the knife maker. The one above it is a titanium Tuff Writer by Jack Roman.

I prefer window shopping in search of that special purchase. I like to think about a purchase for a few months to be sure.
New knife purchases make me happy but it only happens a 0-2 times a year.
My utilitarian mentality keeps my total knife count below 6.

I still read about knife construction, steels, lock geometry, heat treating, blade grinds, etc, all the time. That's my feel good activity related to knives.

I have to confess that I am addicted to buying stuff online. Not just knives, but clothes, guns, car parts, etc. I get an unexplained rush from the hunt and then clicking that "place order" button.

They've made it too danged easy.

I've said this before, so I won't blab about it here too much, but so many things that people do produce the result of temporarily distracting ourselves from our inner turmoil - overeating, overbuying, hoarding, porn, "collecting" knives or stamps or anything, etc. Booze, drugs, food, etc. are all forms of self-anesthesia that temporarily suppress our angst and distract us from the trainwreck between our ears. Me owning 100+ knives is no different, but the side effects and adverse consequences of this particular addiction are not so bad.

:) Currently old axe heads to refurbish, rehandled and then sell at a loss. As you said, we all need that self satisfaction- sometimes acquisition is a drug in itself.

This side hobby is relatively cheap, therapeutic and gets some old axes back into service.

Man, I have those same issues brother. Have had about $700 sitting in my cart at Amazon for about 3 days now, since my birthday is about 2 weeks off. Do I need any of the items? Possibly 2. The rest? All mental illness :D

*sigh* I had to read the title seven or eight times before it didn't sound dirty...

Having a few back up Saks doesn't demonstrate severe mental illness to me, however taking anything nutnfancy says serious might

Can't remember where I've seen the report, but this is actually a proven fact. However, Guns, knives, flashlights, & coolers do NOT fall under an self medication/psychosis parameters. The 4 aforementioned categories all fall into a certain set where no 1 item can satisfy every need required of said item. I.e. no 1 knife will meet all the needs required of it. You can't cut bread with a paring knife, you can't quarter a deer with a carpet knife, etc. You can't hunt cape buffalo with a .22lr or plink with a 475h&h magnum. Nor can you carry your lunch to work in a yeti or go deep sea fishing with you work lunchbox.

You just keep telling yourself that, brother. But when you are ready to drop the denial stuff, we'll be here for you.

Damn, 'noodle. You just toss 'em all into a shoe box or something? Some of those are quite nice, certainly nicer than to throw them in a box. :p

My excuse for buying pens? I use them a lot taking notes in my master's program. Do I need 3? Prob not. :p The wallet...well it's gonna replace my old leather wallet. The carabiner is also replacing an old and worn out 'biner. And since I'm knife-less right now and you seem to have an over abundance, I'll take that 806d2 off your hands. I insist.
