Cadre???

Not having one in front of me cutter17, yes this was a full sized folder, I'm guessing a 3.75" blade.

Now I'm hooked! Thanks for the info Thomas! I'll be keeping my eye's peeled for updates on this one, so I don't miss it.

Oooh! Want!

As long as it isn't too large (say 3-4"), that has some serious potential as a "Gentleman's Tactical". Is this a "designer" blade or in-house?

Hey and if nothing else Vasilli will be happy with our blade steel with this one.

Ha! That was the very first thing I thought of when you said 110V for the blade.

I like the look, some minor tweaking maybe, but a very solid design. I also agree on the darker colors, it what is shown I like the darker one better myself and would like to see other colors too. Maybe the blade insets could be colored to match the scales somehow?

I really felt this project should have had a designer attached to it, but time was short. It is a Kershaw design.

Hey, a Kershaw design is fine by me. It is nice that you guys can do an in-house show piece. Your people deserve to show off what they can do AND take credit for it every now and again.

I like the blade the way it is, nice shape, good proportions, the sculpted areas look great.
The handle bugs me though, the line dividing the "bolster" from the handle shouldn't be perpendicular to the long axis of the knife, it makes the handle look disproportionate (mostly too small).

I like it TW. Interesting design. I do like that handle and that color (i am partial to blues lol). Personally, I say go for it in terms of production!

The design idea is great. But using super steel with such grind can not show full steel potential.
How about a bit higher grind & pointed tip?

All I can say is....Wow!! That is a beautiful piece!!
If this is a sign of things to come....God help our wallets!!

kd makes an interesting point. Would it be possible to angle the back of the bolster to match the angle of the blade sculpture? And matching the color of the scales to the sculpted parts of the blade would look nice too.

I think is great to see you do some of your own designs. Perhaps this is the start of Kershaw's artistic line? It presents a great image!

The geometry changes from a 2nd proto that I alluded to earlier would address and "thickness" issues, and allow the grinds to gradually run down to an extremely thin edge. Due to the sculpting, the Cadre would never be perfect specimen as far as performance cutting goes, but wouldn't be a slouch either.

We actually did have the "bolster" line in tune with the sculpturing, but strangely enough felt it looked better this way. I do like the blade to handle ratio with this piece though. For once it looks like there is too much blade.

Great minds think alike! Looking at the proto again, it gives me the impression that the blade wouldn't fit into the handle!

And you can never have too much blade! :p

With the bolster the other way, it still looks like the blade it too big for the handle (not as much though), but I think it looks better for some reason.

Wow is all I can say...time to sell off some of my non-keepers (that would be non-Kershaws) in preparation...:D

+1 for Burgandy in the handle color mix!

Ray :)

Does anyone have info on the CPM-110V steel? BTW very nice knife, very unorthodox blade design.

I must be REALLY preoccupied, because I wasn't aware of this new steel. Super steel junkie that I am, this is hard to imagine ;)

The recessed machine area's (sculpting) is what the Cadre is all about. It's about taking the latest greatest steel, and processing it in a way that eyes have rarely seen. We can make a standard knife whenever we want. Just wasn't the goal with this project.

I guess now would be a good time to mention that the Cadre was put up for the "American Made Knife of the Year" at Blade last month, but was not recognized. If we do actually go through with the pattern there will be changes over this original proto. We will try and be as honest and up front as possible with the release of this piece (if we do at all), but don't want anyone to get the wrong idea that we were pulling a "bait and switch" at the show. Just felt it was important to mention this. Don't want anyone to feel we are misleading them.

thanks for the candor Thomas. And thanks for allowing us the honor of providing input for the production of this great knife

I do'nt know if its the angle of the picture but the blade to handle ratio looks amazing. Its looks like its well under the 1 inch mark.Is the $400 -$500 mark accurate? If it is I think it would make it the highest price model from Kershaw.
