California Bush Bash IV. October 22-24, 2010

Hey i did sleep in my van nice and comfy... Me wonder who was it that walked in shorts and crocs around part of the day while everyone was cold freezing lol.. Jason if you are cold and freezing cause of another mistake the weatherperson makes. Dont you come over and beg me to share my bed with you LOL.... But if you dont make it till morning your bike is MY.
Dave It would be great to see you again.. Its not same with out you out there.

Sasha

I'm jealous of Sasha's van.

Of course I wouldn't actually want to drive it to the campsite, or ever be seen in it, but once it's there, I'm sure it's more comfortable than a tent. :)

nothing beats a nice warm bed when its freezing outside and the ground is wet... and you can wake up nice and toasty.. its even better then a good dinner lol. Admit it Mike you want one too lol..

Okay, I've finally got myself a good tent I'll be able to use at the Bush Bash. Got an REI Half Dome 4 at the REI used gear sale today. It was $80 and looks brand new. Big enough for for me + one or two people (no, Sasha, that's not an invitation), but not as big as the monstrosity's I've used before. Plus, I doubt it will leak like those cheap tents I have.

That's a lot of tent for the price. Always fun to get new gear.

I have a couple items I'll be breaking in on this trip. Low light pics with my phone so sorry for the quality.

Vargo collapsible wood stove. Made a fire a few days ago but haven't tried cooking with it. It's small and compact for sure.

Just got this chopper from Bill Siegle a few days ago. We'll see how well it makes firewood (as if there's any doubt).

Anyone else bringing new toys?

That looks a bit like the shape of the last Stallone movie knife. A pretty practical configuration that ought to chop like crazy.

I'll probably be packing a brand new Hoover hot water carpet cleaner (going to be doing some work on the old residence in LA;)).

With a 13" blade it reminds me of a stretch version of the Fiddleback Bow Legged Chopper.

We will have to compare that to Ray's kukri. That sucker chopped pretty well.

Hey Mike so now you kick me out of the tent jsut cause Jason said she is showing up for the camp.. See if i care sleeping all nice and cozy in my bed in the van.
Jason that is a perfect big blade knife as there is.. We shall see how well it chops as there is plenty to chop out there and i want need more fatwood...
Dave i do hope to see you out there if you can make it.

Sasha

hmmmm...why do I get the feeling that I should be bringing a rental car.

cause there would be guns slingshoots and we need a moving target. Ian would be the driver. Unless John wants to drive in circles again in the mud...

If you let Ian drive it under rally conditions, don't expect to be able to drive it home....

If anybody gets stuck in the mud, Mike can drive your car out while I push. Don't worry, It's not bad at all. You won't have a problem unless you drive a VW van or the person driving is Ian.:D

Okay, who's interested in a friction fire contest? We're all experts in using firesteels (**coughnotreallycough**), but friction fires are a different beast. Rules can be simple; something like: Everyone starts with nothing but a knife and maybe some paracord and the first one to start a fire wins.

Sound fun?

My preparations consist of bringing Ride of the Valkyries to blast on the stereo whenever I encounter mud. It should frighten the mud into immobility and improve the driving conditions dramatically.

Friction fires sound great, never made one before so I'd better start practicing.
