California Spring Bush Bash 2011. Sequoia NF. April 29 - May 1 **NOW WITH PICS**

Maybe we can do some kind of a contest to win one of my knives. Nothing fancy, just something simple like a small utility knife in 1095.

Sweet! But what kind of contest? I vote for shooting. :)

I was thinking the same thing...but only as long as long as Sasha's niece doesn't participate. If she does we might as well give her the knife up front and save the ammo. ;) I'll donate a knife from the stable for a second contest...maybe something to do with ropes and knots (don't get your hopes up Sasha).

With the date change Ian will not be in town, and I may not be able to make it, either. But if I do I'll bring the scones or maybe dutch oven cobbler.

So this year I'm bringing some new toys. I recently got a recurve bow, which is a lot of fun. Also got a tomahawk for throwing.

But we need to think of something bushcrafty to practice. Maybe bow drills will work if it doesn't rain? Any other ideas?

How about trap making skills?
Figure 4 and so on....doesn't make a difference if it rains or not.
Also - it would be cool to practice some shelter making. Gotta sleep somewere.......:D

Last time I participated I brought along a metal cookie tin and dead cotton shirt to make charcloth. That was one entertaining activity.

Hey just to set things right not Mike or Jason had any complaints when i showed them the van and showed them the proper way to tie the knots.. My niece would come over and im going to adj the trigger on my CZ so she can realy put the hurt on the paper and win that knife for me... Just to put it right i did make a fire from the wood from the last get togher after i figured out what i done wrong. We also need a cooking competion for the best knife out there. I should be back home with lots of steal..

Sasha

Oh oh----now I'm worried that "lots of 'steal'" was a Freudian slip typo!;). But seriously, I'm sure the butt whipping that Sasha administers to us in any contests will be fair and square.:D:thumbup:

I hope I can make my schedule work for this.

Location????

I followed the directions on page 1, in Google earth, and it took me to the following location:

36° 38.175'N
118° 57.221'W

This is significantly different than the location at (on page 1, first post):

36° 39.557'N
118° 57.403'W

Can anyone in the know please check this to see which location is correct?
The two locations are about 2.5 miles apart over the road, and about 1.6 miles as the crow flies.

As soon as i get home i would post the GPS location i took when i went there. I use the WGS84 which is same for Geocaching. That would take you right into the middle of the clearing on top of the last camp fire.. Make sure you follow the driving direction not the GPS as it would take you on a wild goose chase.
I dare you to ask me how i know that one.

Thanks Sasha!

Anyone know shorter alternate directions from the Fresno/Hwy. 180 area for someone coming from Norcal?

From my knowledge of the road coming in from 180, it may appear shorter on the map, but it will take you longer to get there.

The original directions I gave with mileage at various turns is correct, at least by my odometer. I have been there many times, and it is pretty simple to get there.

I love to haunt the WSS forums, reading all about you guys, and now I'll get to meet you! Count me in, although I'm a newbie! Thanks so much for setting this up! :D

The directions from Lambertiana are spot on. Maybe your odometer won't match up exactly with his, but if you follow his directions, you will not get lost.
