Camillus Black Ops CQB

Well, I got my CQB Jr today (The CQB2 with the stainless blade). Very well made and sharpest blade of any knife I have. But, as others have posted, the handle is very small - smaller than some steak knives I've used in restaurants. Anyway, this was my first fixed blade purchase, and I think I'll be sticking to folders in the future.

By the way, can anyone tell me how the rubber snap loop works on the kydex sheath? The tek-lok is pretty cool, but I just don't understand the loop thing.

If I'm not mistaken, you put the sheath inside the waistband of your pants, and loop the rubber snap thingy around your belt. The rubber strap retains the sheath when you draw the knife.

Just got my 6" version! Best $30 I ever spent! Thanks for alerting us to this deal! My will shave arm hair with the factory edge. So how tough is this steel? Is is tougher than the ATS-34 version?

I ordered my 6 inch version from sportsmans guide about 3 months back. It is a very nice blade and holds an edge like nobodys business. It is the same carbon steel used in the Becker line, so it is extremely tough. For thirty bucks, you absolutely cannot go wrong with this blade.

Definitely a good deal. I got the 6", Nice solid blade. There are some substantial differences from the stainless model, (aside from the steel and sheath), The rivets on the stainless are screw type rivets and ground flush with the micarta. The rivets on these are a press type. The handle slabs could losen up over time with hard use.(I'm trying to resist the urge to replace the handle slabs with black linen micarta and stainless bolt rivets), The micarta is finished nicer on the stainless version. However for $38 it is significantly less than half the stainless version without shipping.

I ordered sunday night off the web and tuesday afternoon it was here UPS ground. I have ordered from them in the past from the catalog and called and it took 2 weeks for the item to get here. I noticed everyone else seemed to get theirs pretty fast, Is ordering on the web always so much faster with SG?

Got one of these bad boys with a Normark sheath a little while ago.

Great knife and the aftermarket sheath is just pure magic.

Do you have a link for where we can get the aftermarket sheath?

I was really impressed with the knife for what I paid for it. It's a solid feeling knife, and designed very well.

My 6" CUDA arrived today from Sportsman's Guide. Heavy and durable, full tang, decent sheath, and shaving-sharp. I'm thinking of ordering a 4" too. An amazing deal for $30!

I'd like to see some pictures of the knives you guys ordered from Sportsmans Guide, see some pictures of how they look up close and how they do out in the woods.

I'll take some pictures for you. It's well worth the $30. I'm not sure if I'll ever really have a chance to use it, but it's a lot of knife for $30. I actually have been thinking of buying a 2nd to use as a beater. See what the thing can do. :)

Okay, here we go. The first set of images were taken without flash and the color is warmer than it should be. I should have done a manual white balance. :) I'm using a Canon G5 if anyone is wonder, and the non-flash pictures were taken on a tripod at f8.0 with a 3.2 second exposure. This is the 6" version:

Just some thoughts on guardless stabbing...purely academic mind you...
If you were using this knife to stab, chances are it is to stab someone or at least something alive right? That being the case, if you're using a fencing grip chances are that the stab would be made underhand and into soft tissue. I don't think the resistance meeting the point of the knife would be greater than the strength of your grip.
Furthermore if you are doing any stabbing with any legitimacy (legal or otherwise) you were probably trained, have spent time practicing and have acquired skill, familiarity and muscle memory using your knife, thus further minimizing the risk of an accidental evisceration.

Odds are the only time you would encounter hard tissue would be if you were executing an overhand, and therefore icepick grip stab. Which is a much more secure grip and method of stabbing.
I would venture to think that one would have a greater chance of accidentally slipping with this blade while skinning game than while stabbing. Unless of course you're stabbing an oil drum or something.

Couldn't put all the images in one post, so here are the rest:

The final image is a more accurate representation of the color of the handle.

Nice pics indeed!

neetones: No, the top edge isn't sharpened... but it wouldn't be difficult to do so.

Yep, mine looks just like that.

Marcelo Cantu, It's available in 4" or 6". But you'd prefer in-between?

Yeah you wanna fight?? ;)

The handle on the big one is awesome. Such a handle would look silly with a 4" blade, and 6" is more than I need for outdoor utility. So a 5" blade and the larger handle for me would be good.
