Duncan, when the weather's better I'd like to take some photos of the knife you sent me in some historic Sheffield settings. For now though, here it is with my Grandfather's pocket watch, a 1903 map of Sheffield, and an 1897 English penny :)

Thanks for the great thread idea! I keep forgetting to compose something during the night, so I guess I'll add some stock photos to hold my place!

A traditional haul from an antique show!

Okay- I'll admit to using a cute girl to get a vote- but what is more traditional than giving a kid a knife, it isn't her first knife, but it is her first Kukris, and it is tradition in my family to give first time gun show attendees a kukris.

First off, Duncan this is as Fes says generous to a fault! Thank you SO much for the chance.

Im out of town so my picture options are different. Im using a simple point and shoot. No editing and no crop. Jpeg dorect to photobucket.

Why I like this photo. I shot with a slight zoom to compress the scene slightly. This, along with the rather straight on position of the knife gives very little distortion. I stole the angle from Doug and one of my favorite photos of his. Next you have a traditional with jigged bone and 1095 in a 3rd word chrafty country. The lines of contrast in the boat lead your eye to the knife, as do the palm shadows cast onto the hull. The knife is the focal point. Shadows are showing strong depth. Full contrast shadow details through highlights. The bacground muted yet very much a factor with limited depth of field.

So I could go on but I wont. The question was what dpes rhe photo do for the knife. Well, it shows TRUE detail and coloration of this knife and bone in a setting that gives depth and suplemental beauty better than any photo i have taken of it.

Typed on an iphone sorry for any errors.

I am honored. Humbled even, because I know the photo of which you speak and remember your very gracious comments about it. Touched me deeply because I am a bumbling novice who points and shoots and never edits/enhances anything, and you are a skilled photographer.

It is also a rather interesting -- humorous even -- turn-about, because the inspiration for the series of photos I took that afternoon was one you had posted weeks, if not months prior!

Thanks so much Doug! You are always so kind. Photography is my favorite hobby. You can always learn from and help each other.

No cute kids around, but I do have chocolate! :D

And beer! :D :D

And Johnny Depp! :D :D :D

Duncan, generous beyond words ... thanks.

I'm in! (if it's not too late)

Thanks a lot for the opportunity!

Since so many others are contributing more than one photo, I will contribute a few as well, starting with my current favorite. (The sun is finally out right now, so I will hopefully come back to edit this post with a new shot taken just for this contest/giveaway)
