Hi guys.
i found myself camping the last couple weekends and will be going the next couple weekends. i like to camp. but, i know there are plenty of little things i can learn....even, if it is just a pic of someone's setup.

so, i figured i'd try to start a thread devoted to camping. this will hopefully give us a place to show our setups, tell stories, and provide any tips and tricks that seem helpful.

we were in the Groton State Forest (VT) this weekend. i'm now ashamed to say i've never been. it is about 1.5 hrs from me, but i had no idea that this "wilderness area" was so close. i really liked the campground we stayed at (Stillwater - there are several in GSF). this one had relatively private, woodsy sites. they had beachfront on Lake Groton and they even had row boats, canoes and kayaks to rent. it was really a great time.

ok, ok...i know. on to the pics!

our setup. it is an old Camplite (damian) popup. it was real cheap and it keeps us dry. perfect!

also with this little sharpener. picked it up cheap somewhere several months ago, and it really works great at doing the touchups in the "field"....

good deal grunt. and, i hear ya. i can go camping for just a couple days, and i can really feel that "escape". and, this place had no cell service. it was great!

Good to see lots of you guys are getting out. Nice pictures of the VH ( and the bacon!)

Thanks for the pics, keep them coming. Good stuff. Pics of knoves in action while camping makes it even better.

You did such a fine job finishing the scales on that VH. Looks just like the bacon. :)

Jeff

nice VH. i like the belly on that one. bacon looks tasty. we just got back from a one nighter in henry cowell redwoods down in the santa cruz mountains. we went minimalist this time and just loaded up the truck bed with the 2-man tent, sleeping bags/pads and our camp stuff. didn't really take pics of our setup, but here's the bulldog on her tailgate party. :D

glad you got out. love that bulldog. and those brats/sausage look good.

For tips, the dual stoves is a good one. nothing like firing up the rocket when you just need to warm so water.

For me, the food is key. Everything is better when cooked outdoors.

As for equipment; headlamps are sweet. Hard to beat the Tactica

I took my custom JK phoenix with me and cooked bacon on the open fire on the grates. Best bacon I've had in a long time. I didn't get any pics sadly.

hmmm...right on the grill grates?? haven't ever done that. sounds awesome!

i also used the VH to make kindling and it worked great. actually the hippy, convex grind on this really lends well to wood processing. like you though, no pics. we had company, and i didn't want to be some "weird knife guy".

Everyone is posting some great photos. Dan, your dog looks like a big version of my Maggie!

She is a funny story...hound breeder of Plotts gets married to a woman with a papered Rhodesian Ridgeback...no worries the Rhodesian is fixed cause the person she got her from told her so...NOT...My Nala is one of 9 pups. All the females looked like her and the males were brindle like their dad the Plott.

Nala is 18 months old and 72 pounds...a little over the top with protecting the family and a hunter to boot. I worked away from home for three years returning twice a month for the weekend...Nala was my buddy before my promotion recently closer to home...now she stays home guarding the house. Hates Bear and Hogs...skateboards and dreadlocks....I live in northern California you know.
