Camping thread

I'm no expert, but if you look really hard I think you can see Sasquatch on that rock.

I love that cause my last post was in Willow Creek California and one of the areas I managed was all of Bluff Creek where the Patterson & Gimlin film was shot of sasquatch.....

I am almost 6'9 barefoot and a tad over 300 pounds. Viking blood from Gotland, and my facial hair in the picture is about 5-7 days growth...I'm kinda a freak...logger, rancher and degrees in forestry and wildlife management...26 years experience working in the woods and all 44 years living in them.

It is odd how much I enjoy John and the JK section of BladeForums...I haven't even been looking at the others. Cannot wait to see the redwood on a knife, and cannot wait to see my knife with my redwood scales I sent in.

My part of California is amazing and remote..and a little outlaw'ish due to it being the 'emerald triangle' of marijuana growing. I grew up here but it is a different world now...gotta watch your back!

Hates Bear and Hogs...skateboards and dreadlocks

Ha! I like that, I had a rat terrier who would go full out for anyone with facial hair, and a coon hound who hated surf boards...I can't imagine what either would have done with skateboards and dreadlocks. I would have guessed black mouth cur for Nala. Great looking hound, and it looks like an amazing play ground you have there!

the ones by the Pacific Ocean are a family ranch...it is amazing

Not sure if I posted this before. It's a pic from a camping trip my wife and I took with another couple. Deal was that we took care of beer and snacks and they would provide food. Sitting up camp an argument over nothing exploded between them and the next thing we knew they were throwing stuff back in the truck. The pic is our dinner that evening after they had driven away with all the food. My wife and I still talk about how good it was.

I remember reading this elsewhere on the JK forum. Must have been some argument. Glad you two had some food and were able to make due!

It's probably one of our most memorable camping trips. Here is a shot of the river from our campsite
that day. it's an area I have camped at since I was a little boy.

Thanks for the kind comments guys, it really is a special place to me. Here's another pic taken
downstream off of a swinging bridge.

Cool thread Todd,I'm a car/truck camper myself.
I'll take pics of some of my gear next time I get out for a night or two.
For now here is my camp site.
I have a 10x12 tent and a big 'ol cot because I like to be comfortable.
The tent is big enough to take shelter in during a rain shower and be comfortable in, plus I can stand up in it.(screw that crawling around on my knees crap)

The red box next to the blue water containers is the chuck box I made, very handy for keeping essential gear ready to go.

We had a tent camper when I was a kid and my great uncle made a simple little armoire/whardrobe out of panelling to keep clothes and stuff in.
It was super light and layed on the floor during transport.Maybe 5' tall if that, but it sure kept the clutter down with the 5 of us in there.(Shelves on one side and a hanging rod on the other)

And here's the answer to the age old question...

does a bear.....?

I found that pile just down hill from camp a few years ago.

good post Myke. thanks.

i took the "missus" and her daughter up to a campsite tonight. it is about 1.5 hrs away. i just got back. i wanted to get some work done in the morning, and then i will return tomorrow afternoon.

really liking the li'l popup thing. i have always just tented until last year when we got it. i have a real hard time sleeping in a tent now. back, shoulders, etc. the popup is pretty comfy. though myke, i've been thinking about trying a cot. i have a little blowup pad that i use (got it for hiking), but it doesn't help too much.

back from camping. didn't really take many (any) pics. but, i did snap yet another one of the VT Hunter. Mitzi got some croissants for breakfast. so, did a chorizo, egg and cheese croissant. goood.

Inspired and motivated by posts here I decided to go camping for the 1st time in years. I've done hundreds of day hikes, logging thousands of miles in my boots, but haven't spent a night outdoors in 6 years, when my wife and I did a week on the Inca Trail in Peru. It's been to long. So, I started talking with my buddy about doing an overnighter this weekend and he was enthusiastic to say the least. We planned all week and spent hours discussing the details. Friday when I got home from work he was already waiting for me and ready to go. I've know the guy for a little over 4 years and rarely see him this excited. So, after getting my gear together and helping my wife put our daughter to bed, we left our itinerary with my wife, kissed his Momma goodbye and went to the yard to set up camp.
Gathering fire wood with his wagon.

Camp chores go faster if you run.

Setting up the tent.

Practicing the fine art of campfire story telling. His involved Beowulf, rockets, lasers, and a fire-breathing dragon.

Marshmallows are required camp food when you're 4.

My boy and I on his first camping trip.
