Camping - what's the best Busse?

Jerry maybe Jennifer or Dan.....then there is Katie..........and the twins.....................and so on.......

It depends a lot on what your planning on doing with it. If you want as much range of use as possible and are okay with using a huge knife for small tasks (which is annoying and tiring), then

If you want something small and portable that won't wear your hand down during small tasks but you still want to be able to chop with it, then
BOSS Jack Proto

If you are willing to take a small folder, a Leatherman or something similar for smaller tasks and are willing to isolate the fixed blade to particular tasks, then the entire catalog is open to you and it becomes a matter of preferences, balance and weights.

For myself, covering large and small tasks I'm damn happy with the Basic 9.

just went camping. had no choice, but to take my badger attack le. chopped down a 4in. dia. tree to make a toilet. done and done.

Out of the ones I own right now, the SAR5 would likely be my choice for a general camping blade. Enough length and weight for chopping or batoning, short and handy enough for food prep and smaller chores, reasonably easy to carry.

I owned an NO-E at one point but unfortunately sold it - that would also be a great choice. The ASH1 looks like it would be an excellent option as well, I particularly like the blade shape and overall dimensions, but I've never actually handled one. It's on my "list of knives to buy at some point."

Fixed that for you! Just remember that the .32 CG weighs as much as some blades 10" & even longer. Go skinny or LE if you have a dedicated chopper. It's one AWESOME knife that I will simply never part with.

Not just for cutting down the forest. For all around use.

Loaded question as I own 32 of them but my answer would be any CABS. I am a choil guy so LCABS. Agree that on the less expensive side RMD is pretty hard to beat. I have often thought that if headed out the door and it was the apocolypse then LCABS, Boss Jack, SAR 6 LE, Rat Man Du. Just what I like.

LOL! At this point I have dedicated chopper, slicer, beater, zombie-slayer, prybar, fighter, reverse-grip fighter, utility do-all, EDC, camp, hiker, jogging knives...I think I need to cool it on the "boxes showing up every week" front until Christmas or so when I can drop hints about how they might contain gifts for someone and not actually have to cop to "another knife."

After all is said and done, I still favor the Basic 9. That blade configuration seems to work best for me in a survival/camp knife. It is a balance between the smaller Boss and the NM mistress series which, although prized for their chopping power, tend to be too massive to tote if you have to walk through the woods for any great distance. The handles on the Basic 9 have always been 'right' for me since the first time I picked the knife up MANY years ago.

Jerry would drink all your beer, so he's out. Not sure about the others. As far as a non-human Busse for camping, NMSFNO.

ASH-1 @ .220", SFNO, SH-e, No-e, SJTAC @ .220" For all around blades, .220 -.250" is my pref.

The Boss Jack (in its various incarnations) seems ideal. Light, a good size and length with an awesome blade geometry..
But, YMMV.

I'd go with a BOSS Jack - even though I own and love my much bigger SARSquatch, NMSFNO, TMDSF, BWM and CGFBM, I've never really ever been in a camping/hiking situation where I "needed" them...

The BJ is so much more usable and carryable and is really the only blade I grab anymore, especially since I never really need to chop... It's the only Busse I've ever felt the need to own multiples of bc it is so useful.

I'd get one, or a few, while you still can from Busse direct.

Here is a size comparison:

Amen. He said it'd be "very, very soon" and started that thread on August 22. It's felt like forever.
It's only been 2 weeks, and will probably only be another 2 weeks...
;)

I would pick something in the 6-9 inch blade range, so many good choices, BJ or ASH in any variation.. I think the Rodent 9/ AshWhacker 9.5 will also be good choices from the upcoming releases. I am leaning towards the R9 myself (cost is my biggest motivating factor, if I had the money I would get some flavor of INFI).
