Camping - what's the best Busse?

The do it all knife IMO is the SFNO.. preferably saber ground.. not too big, to be heavy, but big enough to do what ever job needed

Probably the B11 paired with a smaller knife like a BAD or a swamp rat RMD.

This!

Not as expensive, or flashy as some combo's, but sure to get every thing done you need, and in the lightest possible package as well!

My most recent "kit" was my baldric rig with my B11, Cabs, and Muck all in one rig! (usually have a leatherman wave as well).

Really, tough to call for some one else, unless I know what they intend it for. Long distance hike? Car camping? No big chopping? No fire building allowed? ETC, ETC.

I love these threads. :D I subscribe to the big knife + small knife combo when possible.

If I were car camping I would be very happy with a MS (or GW) + CGFBM pairing. If I'm going to be hiking a bit too, I would switch out the CGFBM with a B11 to keep things light.

If I can only take one knife, it would be one of my midsize knife. Any of the following based on mood ... RMD, Desert Jack, SJ, Hellrazor, Chopweiler, or Ratweiler.

^^^^^^This. Probably the one of the most practical 'general purpose' blades out there IMO. Tho I am also a fan of a HOGSJTAC as well if you need a little finer point. The TankBuster is also excellent if you need something that might take a little more abuse and has a little more 'belly' for those tasks that require such.

I say the big knife little knife combo if you strickly want to stay with knives. My camping kit is a fiskars axe, a small knife (sar 3, esee 4, etc) in the bag and a mid sized blade on my belt that goes where I go after I cache the pack at camp. I was using the boss jack for the mid sized piece, but i may replace it with my newly aquired satin jack tac (thanks BOSS).

Surprised nobody has mentioned the DSSF. A great all rounder and it doesn't weigh much either.

I like the mud razor or hell razor with the top ground flat. Long enough, good width, weighs in at about 14 ounces.

Very nice, makes me miss mine. I traded it off long ago. It was my first actual busse combat knife...

For camping I prefer my SAR5 or Rat warden. Larger knives tend to be cumbersome to me or of limited utility. If I plan to do chopping I'll bring a hatchet. I love big knives and have a Killa Zilla, NMSFNO and AK47 but don't care to carry them. The SFNO doesn't make a great utility knife and isn't an efficient chopper. The killa zilla is a good chopper but not hatchet good and also makes a relatively poor utility knife. I don't find anything beyond a 6" blade to be particularly useful. I'm sure people who are used to big knives find them useful but most qualify that they'd carry a smaller knife in addition. I have a couple SAR4s and love them but find them a bit more cumbersome than the SAR5, a lot of people would disagree with me.

You really favor your Paul's Hatchet, such a spoiled little guy. :) Nothing wrong with that- I admire your devotion!
