Can I speak of Non-Busse folders here?

My vote goes for a Benchmade Rift or Emerson commander ,good knives and pretty tough, not too expensive either.Pack a leatherman for the the non cutting stuff...kelly

A bit pricey but rock solid.

Strider's SMF and SNG

Really like them but too big to lawfully EDC in my state and their PT was too small.

Hinderer's XM-18, small and Reeves' Sebenza, also small

Started with the Sebenza but it seemed a bit thin so I got an XM-18, (actually, got two) and they have a much stronger blade. All are razor sharp. No trouble slicing.

I wish I could post some pix of Rick Haney folders!!:thumbup:
Rick "sculpts" his blades.

My small Sebenza is AWESOME but a little expensive.

I have had great luck with Kershaw (Tyrade, ZT, and Leek) and Spyderco (every model I've ever picked up).

Good luck!

If you are looking to spend as much as the xm18, I would highly recommand you get the flipper model. I personally like the 3.5" over the 3" but that's just me.

The Ambitious folder blade looks like a BATAC.

That was one of my initial thoughts when I saw it... I thought, "How cool! A folding BATAC." (more or less). Once Lionsteel & Rick Hinderer reached an agreement over the Rotoblock (possible infringement issue over Rick's Stabilizer patent now resolved) and Lionsteel was given a green light, I signed up. :)

molletta designed that? very cool!!!

how much???

re the op, ive had them all.

$200.00 and under: emerson, spyderco military.

$200.00 and up: sebenza. i have an xm flipper, and its great. ive owned strider sng's and smf's, and always end up selling them. nothing wrong with them, but they end up not getting carried.

but for ease of carry, slicing ability, durability, maintenance, etc, i keep going back to a sebenza.

I have had a chance to get one of the recent offerings from Rick Hinderer XM-18 in CTS-XHP. It is a really smooth and strongly built folder and I think warranty on those is really good as well. If you have some cache to spend then I would definitely try to find one of the latest XM-18's.

My favorite folder is the Scott Cook Lochsa.

I recently bought a ZT 0300, and love it. It cannot replace the Lochsa, but is an excellent folder nonetheless.

Lunde, thanks. Great shots. What purpose does that disk serve near the end of the pocket clip? Says Zero Tolerance on it.

check out the benchmade stryker. It comes in tanto point which you don't like but also in a mod spear point. Which works very well.

Emerson makes great folders. You might have a hard time getting the hang of chisel grind sharpening. Go for the mini commander. IMO stay away from the super size emerson's. It's like carrying a sword around in your pocket. A well made one but a sword.

Some time ( hopefully soon) busse will have folder. :D IN BAMA CLAY!

I'm not familiar with chisel grind? Can it be done on a diamond stone? Also, what lengths do you consider super size? I'm liking the CQC-10.

I haven't looked at every single knife mentioned, but the ZTs and Emersons really have my attention. The only cons I'm seeing with the ZT is the weight, but thats generally not a concern.

While I appreciate all the opinions, its not really a "How much is too much discussion". I already said $300 is the extreme upper end... unlikely even, so suggesting a $400 knife is like drawing my attention to a super cool hatchet. I'm sure they're some great knives, but I'm not interested.

Jaxx, whats the knife on the far right of your second photo, with the different thumb knob? I like the blad length and profile.

As I suspected though... you (us) Busse guys know your knives.

Chisel Grind - Ok, I get it. My CRKT is chisel ground. It has a grind on one side. So how do you sharpen that? Also, should I be concerned with steel type? I love all my S30V knives. Emersons and some others mentioned are 154 CM

It is a stop for the integral lock, preventing it from being bent outward.

Based on your price criteria, you're probably better off going with one of the ZT300 series(around $200ish).They're very well built, strong folders.I sold mine cause I didn't like the recurve & the AO.
You may be able to find a used lg. Sebenza or Umnumzaan in the exchange for around your $300 mark.Chris Reeve folders are worth every cent IMO & my experience.Good luck with whatever you choose.

p.s. Jaxx, you have some amazing folders!I had no idea!

If I could only have one folder for the rest of my days it would be the Hinderer XM-18 (points to the super cool but too expensive hatchet :D). Second would be the Strider SnG that you could probably find used at the upper end of in your price range.

For LOTS of utility in a folder it's hard to beat the Victorinox OHT for $30... especially if you use can open and close your knife left handed. The Victorinox Alox Farmer is also a fantastic knife. My other favorite knife in your price range is the Rat Trap... the snick-snack slicer of the bunch and one that I carry often. Also in your price range is the small classic Sebenza, my sixth and final folder.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Zero Tolerance 0500 Mudd knife. It's not as bulky as the 0300 series, but the pivot and blade locking mechanism are sealed so that dirt/grit/debris cannot get into them. It's definately worth looking into.
