Can I speak of Non-Busse folders here?

molletta designed that? very cool!!!

how much???

re the op, ive had them all.

$200.00 and under: emerson, spyderco military.

$200.00 and up: sebenza. i have an xm flipper, and its great. ive owned strider sng's and smf's, and always end up selling them. nothing wrong with them, but they end up not getting carried.

but for ease of carry, slicing ability, durability, maintenance, etc, i keep going back to a sebenza.

Mark, the initial pricing for pre-orders on moletta's folder was 195€ (around $265) plus 15€ shipping regardless of quantity, which was an incredible deal for a folder like this. They needed roughly 150 folders ordered to begin production and I believe that's why they offered it for so much less at first and for a limited time...to get folks to take a chance and order one. I believe that the regular price is now 295€ (roughly $400) which is still a good deal, I think. Ask me again if I still think so once I get them. :)

Needless to say, I jumped for 2 while the gettin' was good. ;)

If I could only have one folder for the rest of my days it would be the Hinderer XM-18 (points to the super cool but too expensive hatchet :D). Second would be the Strider SnG that you could probably find used at the upper end of in your price range.

For LOTS of utility in a folder it's hard to beat the Victorinox OHT for $30... especially if you use can open and close your knife left handed. The Victorinox Alox Farmer is also a fantastic knife. My other favorite knife in your price range is the Rat Trap... the snick-snack slicer of the bunch and one that I carry often. Also in your price range is the small classic Sebenza, my sixth and final folder.

+1 Agree wholeheartedly!:thumbup::cool:

:( Yeah... I really like what I see, but that price is freakin hefty. And unless I missed it, the dude goes on and on about his knife but doesn't mention the blade steel. :)

Which dude & what knife?

Yep a big +1 from me on that.

I have one of the older ones with a Zytel handle. Tough suckers they are. I have convexed the edge. I don't carry it as much as I used to. I always have at least 1 Busse FB on me of course. Then I usually have a CS folder. I have been carrying the Pocket Bushman lately, as my folder. Very point and sharp blade. The lock, while slow to unlock (both hands), but quick to open. Thinner blade for great slicing. Works great in the kitchen. Apples and cheese, fruits and veggies. Nothing uber steel about it. A very basic stainless steel. But for some reason, I can't put it down. The design is just about perfect (one handed closure and Infi would = top notch). The lock will hold 300 pounds. I have had folders with 3 times the price tag, with locks I could not place any faith in. I have been cut by locks failing on folders costing way more.

I am very tempted to take a beater Infi blade and have it cut to fit this handle and locking mechanism.

2nd one down.

The 3rd is an old cross lock I ground the edge and tip off of. So my 4 year old could have his own "knife".

That Moletta folder with the milled titanium monoblock handle looked absolutely awesome. Especially at that price.

Spyderco Police III or Endura 3 (if you can find one). Plain edge works best for me and what I do. YMMV.

If things go right we should have a folding American Kensei at BLADE 2010!!!!!

We're having a bit of trouble getting the 18" long blade to fit into the handle, but our patent pending "Venetian Blind" style collapsible blade should solve this problem. And like a venetian blind, you can twist the handy adjustment stick to set the desired "rake" of what can quickly be turned into a fully serrated blade constructed of eighteen, 1' wide panels!!!! Admittedly there are lots of strings hanging from this, but if you find yourself in need of survival twine or a replacement shoestring, BANG!. . . You're good to go!

Drink more. . . and it will all become clear!!!!!

Pronounced with a long "a" no doubt. Sounds like Jerry is warming up for tomorrow's date with a shot across our bows. Avast ye swabbies, the captain's brain is fulminating. Argggghhh...the horror.

ARRGG! The ZT is almost a no brainer that fits my criteria. Price, construction, blade options... I'm just stuck on its monstrous weight of 8oz. I'm not going to really EDC it in a sense that its in my pocket all day. More like a "mission specific" folder that I take when I fish or camp or hunt. Any of you guys that carry it feel the weight is a burden? or no big deal. Otherwise I think I'm going with the CQC-10.

Which dude & what knife?

The XM-18. He has a whole page write up on the features but doesn't give the blade material.

I say you incorporate the MOAB into a Russian Spetsnaz style shooting knife. You should only need one or two 20oz compressed air tanks hanging below the blade.

I have a ZT 0301 and it's really not as bad as you think to carry wearing jeans, you get used to it and forget it's there after awhile.

I rotate my Strider SmF's and ZT 0301 for EDC, 8.4 oz on my scale.

When wearing slacks I carry my Strider SmF CC, at 5.3 oz I hardly notice it at all and forget it's there.

My Standard SmF's weigh 6.3 oz.

I don't wear shorts at all except when swimming, and definitely don't wear those pansy looking cargo shorts or the other ones that also go down to the knees so I can't help you there. Those and flip flops are my main pet peeves.... Fads... :barf:

My 1st thought is like man go put some drawers and shoes on, you are in public. ;)

I like 154 cm steel for folders. The only bad thing i've run into was on a benchmade 710 micro chipping.

Haven't had a problem with any of the other benchmade or emerson.

Chisel grind sharpening can be tricky. Sharpen one side, form a bur then strop it. Once the bur breaks off your done. I know you said before tanto point doesn't thrill you.

Good thing. cause sharpening them SUCKS!

The design of the point almost holding the full thickness of the blade is what helps the point stay strong. Thats what makes them work for me. I'm hard on points.

But the way Jerry does the point on say the NMSFNO. No point breaking on the sweet piece of steel.

Let us know what you get.
