LionSteel of Italy sets up manufacturers direct preorders with schedules and the quantity for the first batch. Whatever is not sold to end-users/customers is given to dealers. For instance, on the SR2 I preordered and paid LionSteel in Euros. Of course, they had several delays from April 30th to May 31st to June 30th (with some website and forum updates). I got mine on July 1st. BHQ started selling theirs on July 24th. It did cost me more to secure one directly from manufacturer mostly due to Int'l FedEx (SR2 Ti $379 vs. $417).
So essentially, no, there are no manufacturers that share vital production #'s or inside information, first looks, to the end-line users?

We do not sell directly to customers - we are a wholesaler. If we were to sell limited run knives directly to the general public, it would be a big insult to our dealer base.

We are setting up our website for E-commerce, but you will note that the pricing is higher than what you would see at a dealer. Also, the items available will likely just be full production items.

LionSteel had pictures back in February with specs, first batch of 200 and ship date of April 30th. However, they don't know how many they'll produce because it's not limited edition.

Benchmade made Pardue limited edition CF exclusively through REI with a run of 175 (mine says 43 of 175). So, you know exactly how many in limited edition universe.
