can you recomend a single benchmade with AXIS lock?

I am considering a 710 or a 940. Do the handles on those knives look and feel better? Also, since the 710 is the first Benchmade with an AXIS lock, does it work as well as on their later models?

I actually prefer the 710's handle over the 940. It's bigger and the flat G10 feels fantastic to me. Don't get me wrong; the 940 is very comfortable, but for me, the 710 comes out just a little bit ahead. The AXIS lock works as well on the 710 as any of the latest models. As far as I can tell, there's no difference. It's certainly identical to that of the 940.

710 is very good knife ,bu too heavy for edc . 940 is perfect !

4.5 oz too heavy? For me, that's on the light-to-medium end of the spectrum. Considering you get an extra half inch of blade with the 710, along with that lovely G10 and a more stout grip/handle, I say it's worth the added weight. I've been carrying mostly a 710 and 806 for years as an EDC. Love them. The G10 has just the right amount of grip and feels good in either gloved or bare hands. I also prefer the 710's clip point blade, which I find is a little more versatile, even for smaller tasks like piercing packaging and such.

For lighter work and a more elegant carry, I'd definitely recommend the 940. It's quite the looker and it's almost a gentleman's knife, as it feels so refined and classy. I like both knives, but the handles, size and length give the 710 the edge in my book.

Another vote for the 940. I have the d2 version great slim knife with a great sized blade. I had the grip mini grip and mpr and the 940s the only one i've kept.

I'm with allyour blood. I sold off all of my Benchmades but kept 2 - the 710 & 940. I think they're both beautiful examples of Benchmade folders. I'm a large folder guy so the 710, while not being a "better" folder is a bigger folder with great ergos and would be my preferred model if I had to pick only one. The 940 is what I'd carry if I worked around sheeple - that whole scenario.

That 940 is dead sexy in'it? :D

You betcha, fella!

I also like the look of the 710 and the 950 Rift. If/when I get around to picking up another Benchmade, it'll likely be either of those.

@00ChevyScott: nice pics, thnx! They make clear the 950 is thick... ish :-) .

Which knife is the other Benchmade in the pics? At least I think it's a Benchmade. The one left of the 950 in the last picture.

now I've put the knives in a list showing how many times they've been mentioned. those only mentioned once are left out, except the onslaugth because the mini was also mentiones.

I may have gotten something wrong, if so please let me know. if a knife has more than one name or a name and a number.

710 10 (some different blade steels.)
mini grip 9
940 5 (940OsborneS30V 1)
griptilian 4 (Doug Ritter griptilian 1)
bone colletor 2

950 2
943 2

Well remember I was taking pics with it and other very thin knives. I can take more pics with it and other knives of similar size. And the other benchmade in the pics is a mini grip.

I really like the 943 as a knife to carry in the office but the 806 is my all time favorite Benchmade.

my all time favorite BM is a 72X with G-10 scales, perfect workhorse.

Second, enter the big and little brother 940 and 950, both very nice.

710 feels good.

Griptilian large or small, if you don't like the way they feel, add split shot and epoxy to the GTX scales, I did and I really liked it, really improved the balance IMHO.

What I will say is I have given a few of my brothers, a 950, a 942 and a full size Grip. I don't give my brothers trash, they use them every day for work, the 950 I gifted has skinned out a caribou in addition to being a work knife, the 942 does electrician work every day, last year it was carried for 3,000 hours at work... all it needed, a sharpening. The grip went to my "worst" brother, he's a knife breaker, two years later now, it hasn't broken. They aren't nuts like me but IF they manage to wear these knives out you can bet they'll be calling me asking where to buy one.

These are just models that I've gifted to family, the 72X line, I can't even tell you what I've done with them for over a decade.

I can't go wrong with Benchmade knives with axis locks, they're tougher than spit and they like to be used.

So you can add another 94X another 950 and another Grip to the list, since impartial users have had them in an unbroken state for far longer than any other pocket knives including Kershaw (not a dig).
