Can you recommend me a fixed blade based on these requirements?

A friend introduced me to Busse. He has quite a collection. They are nice - and well made. I'd kind of like a TBCG - with Magnum handle - base now is $322 - still nothing fancy - and no sheath of any kind, much less s/h. They are pricey - and they are very nicely made, but I am repeating myself.

Several months ago I bought a RAT RC-5, ~$135, with the US made Eagle Industries MOLLE style sheath. The main reason? The sheath maker was being dropped because they would no longer be made in the USA. They have gone to a smaller Kydex sheath - made in the USA. It's an Alabama company, so that was a plus - even if the knives come from ID, I believe.

It's a 5" blade of .250" 1095 carbon steel, with a nice Micarta handle. It feels good - and has a good quality of build - but it isn't a Busse. It does have a skull on it, if that's something offensive to the OP. It's enough of it's style of knife for me - and fits my eclectic mix of knives, which includes Bark River, Bucks, and Marbles. I tend to like BRK&T's A-2 steel and Buck's Bos heat treat on S30V - both being delivered uncoated - but 1095 has a great history, coated or not.

For most of your uses, a Buck 408 'Kalinga Pro' with it's recurved S30V blade or even the 192 Vanguard would suffice... at least keep you going while you wait for a Busse... I really think my interests are satiated these days by folders - and Benchmade, Buck, and Kershaw seem to get my moola now. Of course, for what I have spent on folders this year, I could have started quite a Busse collection. My goodies fit in my pocket - I guess if I ever foresee the need to whittle on CI engine blocks, I'll go 'hawg' wild for Busses.

That's fine really, but don't trash the Company.

Is it fine? Really? You Ok with it?
He stated an opinion.
A man used to be able to have an opinion without a load of people from afar piling on.
HE.....DOESN'T.....WANT.....A.....BUSSE
He has his own reasons, and he's allowed to have them.

Not when the reasons are complete BS and not true along with trashing the company. ;)

So your opinion and his opinion clash. Wow, that never happens.
I'll tell you this, the people attacking the OP for his opinion have probably done more damage to Busse than the original small paragraph that would have gone unnoticed by 95% of the folks here.

I doubt it as his reasons trashed the Company sense they were not true. ;)

I would say Fehrman, NWA, Laconico, and a few other customs would do you just fine. RAT would be added if you didnt mind a coated blades.

He is. And if he publishes them here, and someone else thinks they're BS, they too are allowed to say so.

And if he didn't give a reason for not wanting a Busse then people like you would chase him and demand to know why.
Give it a rest, he doesn't want a Busse.

Now you're just speculating, baselessly too I might add. He was challenged for the inane reasons he DID give. Seems you have more problems with that than he did.

It's been said before by me and others, I don't care if you like Busse or not, or any other brand for that matter. But if you come out with nonsense, expect to be called on it.

You need to do more homework. Both are processes, both require next to zero human work.

not entirely true. If I'm doing a multicoat cold blue operation, I put a lot more time in the sanding than a straight satin finish- both both require a lot of hand work. If I'm doing a different type of 'coated' finish- say a vinegar forge finish, all I have to do is get a good 320 or 400grit scratch pattern before HT and I am good with 10 minutes of crocus cloth after the vinegar portion of the process. A blasted finish is cake, if you have the hardware. But you STILL can't start with 60 grit scratches.

Machine coating versus satin finishes that require zero human hand labor I can't speak to- it's the cost of machines, not time involved that matters most.

Yep I have used both, never personally owned a Fehrman, but I used one of their blades for about a week a few years ago. ;) I didn't like it, the handle felt weird and the balance wasn't to my liking. Fit and finish could have been better and the edge retention wasn't what I expected. My Carbon V Trail Master held an edge longer than the Fehrman did. It was a camping trip in the mountians and a guy in the site next to me saw I was using a Trail Master, he never used one before and I never used a Fehrman so we switched for the week. It was an interesting week for both of us really and a lot of fun.

That's fair enough. To each his own, just don't fillet one to leave the other grazing. :D
