Canada Customs and Axis Locks!

If they loosen the pivot to make it flick, they are altering it so it flicks.
At that point, they are making it a prohibited knife, which is criminal.
The bastards are actually becoming criminal with it at this point. :thumbdn:
I'm not 100% on this, but isn't there an instance of fairly recent case law where it was determined that the ability for a knife to be altered (or worn down) to make it capable of centrifugal opening makes it illegal? Or was it just in the criminal code?

Found that link I mentioned earlier. It talks specifically about importation regulations for a great many things, including types of knives and brass knuckles. A direct quote;
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d19/d19-13-2-eng.html#a5x4
It also talks about centrifugal opening and other subjects more directly related to knives.

Seems like enforcement agencies in Canada are playing just as fast and loose with the lawbooks as they do stateside. This will soon be the only knife allowed for importation to North America:

I like the idea of Knife Rights going to Canada to attempt all the good works they've done in the USA so far...

I can't see it getting that bad anytime soon, but it would certainly be nice to have something like knife rights here.

Overall, we have some pretty good *federal* knife laws, just a few that are a little too open to interpretation. [emoji20]

I'd pay a membership fee etc. for that if they could put a stop to some of this nonsense.

Dollar Store kitchen knives are being used in crimes but ban expensive one handed openers; makes sense.

If C.B.S.A is disallowing all one handed openers now how is that "not that bad?"... Legal one day then not the next for no rhyme or reason is insanity.

Part of me saying that comes from the fact that businesses are still able to bring these types of knives across the border for resale in Canada, but I agree that for the private individual, there is far too much hassle and risk involved.

If you had a job where all you had to do was stand around and wait for knives to admire, would you want to give that up? They are justifying their salaries, benefits and jobs for life.

You know that's my post right?

I can open my kid's Junior Opinel with one hand thus it'll be illegal too.

One of our own getting on the Borderpals team would be disastrous! Don't turn to the darkside, we beg you!
I will not turn as long as I see a way out.
If however they threaten me with 4 years jail for posessing or smuggling restricted arms like the Opinel Junior, I might have no other choice.

As in the UK (where it's worse by far), I never read about anyone who has been screwed contacted their MP. Why is that? Are MPs not expected to stick up for their constituents against the bureaucrats?

"8. Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure."

Sorry to hear about your axis knives bud! A little while back I had a Spyderco Military seized at the border. I called a few times and wrote an appeal, even named 6 different places where the same knife could be purchased in Canada. I told the lady "it seems strange to me that I ordered the one Millie that was made illegal". She said she understood my frustration, but it was decided that the knife would "open with centrifugal force" by flicking it. So basically if they can sit there and find any way to somehow flick it it open, it's illegal. :thumbdn: Needless to say, I buy them all in Canada now (warriors and wonders), with the exception of the occasional back lock with the pivot tightened. If need be that it gets ordered from out of country, just get the shipper to tighten the pivot up real nice! :D. Hope this helps!

In that case i've figured out how to hold the blade on a buck 110 to flick it open and drop into my hand I could define it illegal there then

Wouldn't surprise me a bit haha. I should have specified though, pretty sure it's only while holding the handle. You never know with those border guys and gals though...

In that case....Yep! The buck 110 is a gravity knife. Put your hands on the car.

As a Canadian this frightens me especially considering I sent off 2 Kershaws for warranty work not too long ago.

How will the Canadian knifemakers take the knives back to Canada for service/repair/spa-treatments? (once sold internationally)

There are quite a few renowned makers up here, some really high-end ones also.

Lots of legitimate established makers who make 100% legal folders here.

Customs want to kill their businesses too?

CBSA is being terrible.
